Serious Concerns About Starting My Online Business (Please Help :-()

Hello, everyone...

I want to start an online business, but I have some concerns and I was wondering if anyone can help me.

The question is, since my online business will be, in fact, a "business", should I be concerned about purchasing business insurance? Is there any business insurance available for online businesses?

I'm asking this because if someone comes to my site and either purchases a product and uses it, or follows advice from an infoproduct on my site, and not only does this product/infoproduct not help the person, but somehow (God-forbid) harms him, a potential lawsuit might end up shutting down my business.

I feel this is of special concern if our business is in the health field, but even in other areas as well.

Another question is, if I sold products as an affiliate, and someone purchased the product with my affiliate link and that product harmed them, would I also be held responsible?

How about if someone came to my site and downloaded a free report that offered "Five Free Tips To..." and they used one of these tips and it caused them harm?

I understand what I'm asking may be more of a legal question, but is there anything I can do legally to protect my online business? How should we handle a situation where we're threatened with a lawsuit? Does anyone have any insight or experience with this?

It seems most every marketer or business opportunity out there only talks about the "positive" side of starting your own business (work as little as you want, the unlimited profits, residual income, etc...), but not too many people ever address the "other" issues.

Thank you for your time.

There is no real answer to this considering it depends on the content and what you say to sell the products. One thing to do would be to start an llc to divert some of the risk, but I would also choose products carefully and make sure you are providing good products to buy. Don't sell yourself out just to make a dollar. Choose good products, start an llc and put a disclaimer on the bottom of each page that says that these are just options and you aren't endorsing them as 100% safe. It might hurt sales, but I guess if your that worried, then it may help cover you a bit. My disclaimer. "I am not a lawyer and am just throwing out ideas"

    Have a great day,
