Domain Transfer Question

Hello Everyone!

**This question is especially for those who have Hostgator reseller accounts.**

I have a reseller account with Hostgator. I'm trying to take some of my Namecheap domains and set up accounts with them over at Hostgator. That way, I can perhaps (at some point) sell websites using my HG reseller account.

I'm having a terrible time, though, figuring out the all the tech gobbledy-gook (DNS, nameservers, etc.). It's all Greek to me.

I know what my nameservers are for my master account - the original - account. But are there separate nameservers for each sub-account? If so, how in the world do I figure out what they are?

The reseller acount is for creating cpanel accounts! To bring over your domains to your account, you need to create a fresh cpanel account and click the addon domain button in the cpanel then add the domains you want to bring in. If you want to create a separate cpanel for each domain:

    1. Log into your WHM
    2. Create a cpanel for each of the domains. For example, if you have 20 domains, create 20 cpanels.
    3. Associate each cpanel with a domain (remember the "primary domain" stuff)
    4. Change the nameservers in your namecheap to the nameservers of the hosting. Look at the bottom left hand side of the cpanel to find the namservers.
    5. Sell the cpanel account.

If you are looking to just sell the domains, you don't need to have a reseller hosting for that.

Jawshh is right .. I'd like to add one more thing which you'd need to do.

When you sell the website, tell your customer to create an account at namecheap. Once they have the account, you can push the domain to transfer the ownership to your customer. If the customer wants to have his own hosting, you have to give him access to your ftp account and cpanel so that he can download the files and set up the database on his own hosting.

Here's what I like to do. I don't use a hostgator reseller account. I use the unlimited baby plan and create the websites their first.

Then when I sell the website, I have them get their own web hosting using my affiliate link so I get a $100 commission.

Then it's just a matter of setting up the website for them on their own hosting account.
