Looking for someone that can make "mobile sites"...

I am working on a new business opportunity and need to find someone that can make mobile sites.

If chosen, I will be outsourcing all website creation for this opportunity to you (every client I get) so you will be getting alot of work.

If your good at creating mobile sites, and you are looking for a freelance position based on need...please send me a message.

Thanks

Gregg

awesome, thanks for the links. My only problem is..do these services allow me to host the website on my own hosting rather than theres? Like can I just set up the website and then upload the files to my domain name on my hosting?

This is most likely something you must speak one-on-one with a sales rep to determine, thus reinforcing how important customer service and one-on-one interaction is in this industry.

Many of these services do not allow this for they count on the backend reoccurring revenue from their hosting service. I used to run the company that gave away quality unique websites for free in hopes they will host their site with us. If you're looking for a good moneymaker try that routine out lol

the only real difference with mobile sites, for what I have been testing so far, is the template. You need a template optimized for mobile, everything else is the same.

not much yet, just tried a mobile template in a joomla site and it worked.

there are some things you have to disable.

why, did you find it too different?

here is extension for switching: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensi...s/mobile/11722

and then you need to create a simple template to manage the mobile site.

If you do not mind me asking what are you referring to as far as the statement goes?

I was just wondering if you're talking about testing conversions on a mobile site compared to a normal site ... apparently you are not my hedges stuck in the statistically analytical phase.

could you rephrase this? I'm not sure I understand you...

my main business is service, we provide a full set of services that cover pretty much anything technical that might be needed. To test these things from the technical side is part of what I regularly do.

Regardless it helps other members identify valuable posts by a another member of the forum

Yes, I have tried a ton of these generator type sites and ended up having to create my own mobile templates because they either would not let you host the sites yourself, or most of them give you sloppy code that is not very well optimized and does not rate well against the mobile web standards - thus they don't work across most devices.

Eg: If you see anyone using a regular Google map iframe or Youtube video on their mobile website, then they clearly do not properly understand the creation of mobile websites. Also any site that uses a lot of javascripts, such as most of the mobile plugins you can get for Wordpress, are also fairly useless.

Try and stay away from most of those sites unless you are REALLY stuck. It's not hard to have your own mobile sites created from scratch - you just need to be familiar with and understand the requirements AND purpose of having a mobile site.

There is more to creating a mobile site than just creating a simple template. You need to first understand WHY you are creating a mobile site.

        A good mobile site should:

        - Prioritize the content with mobile users in mind. This means having things such as opening hours, contact information and directions as the most important bits of information on the site.

        - Have a simple design. You should rid your mobile site of all unnecessary images, scripts, etc. You need to remember not all phones support things such as iframes, videos, javascript and so the site needs to be designed with that in mind. All these accordion type menus you see on mobile sites that rely on javascript are not good.

        - Automatically stretch and shrink to fit the screen sizes of a whole range of mobile devices.

        - Have fast loading pages (this is most important). The main advantage a mobile site should have over a standard website is the size of the pages. The mobile web standards say a mobile page should be kept under 20kb if possible. I must say I have hardly seen any mobile websites that follow this advice. Most of them load the pages with pretty designs and images, to help massage THEIR ego, and so the mobile website ends up just as slow as their main website. What is the point in that?

A mobile website is about your end-user. It's about giving them the exact type of information they are likely to be looking for in the easiest and most efficient way as possible. A mobile website is not about being flashy. The person driving along in their car looking for your opening hours does not care how great your site looks. All they care about is a fast loading site that gives them the information they need right away - without sitting there waiting for pages to load.

That's not to say you can't have nice looking designs - it's all in how the pages are coded. Some people understand it... most don't.

I got to agree with Will here too... Most "generators" of mobile sites do a fairly poor job and really only concentrate on smartphones and not user experience

I actually developed and was credited with completing the first truly mobile website using joomla however it was no simple task, it got the 5star rating at ready.mobi and is actually showcased on the site

I frequently develop sites for mobile using Joomla 1.5 as an experienced developer I know 100% there is not a out of the box solution that will work or validate properly across the broadest range of mobile devices... It's so much easier to build a mobile site from scratch than to try and covert the output of say joomla, wordpress or drupal as well as get it to validate it properly

Once developers of these type of plugins understand it's not just about aesthetics these type of plugins will be much more useful... As Will said it doesn't have to look boring to validate and be accessible across the widest range of mobile devices, Wills templates are testament to that.

For me in an ideal world you will have possibly four or five variations to your site styling that accommodate different browsers and devices but that takes time and money... And most people it seems can't be bothered or even care! Lol

It's almost like when flash came out and everyone wanted a 100% flash website! Nothing like a flash intro that takes 5 mins to load that you can't skip lol
