Is Halloween a good season for affiliates?I'm thinking of making a Halloween based site, it's my fave holiday, so it would actually be alot of fun for me :-) Do any of you guys do that?Is it profitable, or a waste of time?

I think it's a very profitable holiday niche. Has lots of highly searched for keywords and lots of lower competition ones that you could rank for. I would have to say it was always my second favorite holiday, with Christmas being the first, but I always went all out for Halloween with costumes and home decorations and spooky music.

I LIVE for Halloween. Let me know if you want a guest blogger. I don't have a Halloween site, but I've thought about it too.

I agree with Suzanne, it has always been one of my favorites. I never outgrew playing dress-up!

People spend LOTS of money on Halloween, too.

Don't just talk. Buy halloween2010.com or something similar. It's a bonus just to sell it when time comes.

Actually, I don't recommend this. It would be good for this year only. Get a good Halloween domain that you can use year after year. Or even multiple domains. A lot of people make sales from Halloween sites year round, even though it is not as much as during the actual season. Check my signature if you want to see a good list of domains, and a great bonus package containing everything you need to get started.

Yeah ... I agree completely ... anytime you use the year in a domain name, you are limiting it's usefullness. I looked at tjmillers domains for sale and there are some excellent Halloween domains that will last forever.

  • Does 7 Billion sound like a good season - sounds like a good reason.

Apparently that is what is turned over for the full season.

I would say it is pretty competitive! So you may have to spend a little extra time on your keyword research.

    Cheers.

I have MNF, I'm ready for keyword research!I feel kind of weird saying this, but I actually really enjoy doing keyword research...it's like a treasure hunt, almost? :-) Anyway, thanks everyone, for the replies/advice!I think I'm going to give it a try!

Please put me on the "NEED TO KNOW" list if you decide to offer that as a service. I DESPISE keyword research. *Sorry to hijack the thread.

        Slyvia,
        Too cool!
I always wished I could have gotten married on Halloween, but we weren't willing to wait that much longer.

Suzanne (and Sylvia) ever notice that all the clowns on tv and in the movies are EVIL?

        -Dani

IDEA! "Let's Throw A WF Halloween Party Webinar!" We could charge like $5.00, and have prizes for best costume (that'll get plenty of people on cam), and think up silly games to play, and sillier prizes to give out. Thoughts?

Halloween costumes, makeup, scary pranks, decoration accessories, and lots lots more.

I would suggest more targeted keywords that people enter to find something to actually buy.

It would be smart to rank for "drakula costume" "buy halloween costumes"

      "witch costume" - 246 000 per month
"star wars costume" - 135 000 per month / both on local (US) since most buys come from the US.

Just so you know what is your competition.

I love Halloween, so much so, I got married on Halloween LOL.

I think it is a great season to target, major money is spent on that holiday. And if you get a site set up and ranking this year it can help you bring in cash every year.

There are a bunch of costumes sites that have affiliate programs, James Jones (MNF) put on a webinar about a month ago about Halloween affiliate sites.

    Best wishes,

lol .... I'd love to see the dress you wore. Was it a costume or traditional wedding gown?

I went overboard one year and dressed as a very scary ghoulish person and my then husband built a coffin-like box. I got in it and every time the doorbell rang, I would rise up out of it to give out candy.

Scared the heck out of the smaller children and sent some away crying. The next year I went with a happy clown outfit.

    Suzanne,

It was a traditional gown, except that it was black with white trim, and I wore a black gothic cape instead of a veil.

The coffin costume sounds like it would have be quite terrifying to younger children. I myself, find the clown one worse though. Can't stand clowns LOL.

Yeah ... I hate clowns too. lol. But didn't want to scare away little children again. Dress and gothic cape sounds awesome for a Halloween wedding.

We've always loved Halloween so it was the only logical date for us.

As far as a Halloween Webinar, I think that would be totally awesome. I would love to go in on something like that.

My husband did something similar one year - really scary costume and he would either creak open the door slowly or rip it open and jump out at the kids.

He sent several of them running crying back to their mothers!

The next year, not so many kids came

Halloween sites are great and if you fill them up with costumes, those actually sell year round for various reasons. Don't forget pet costumes too!
