Any one that isn't using google alerts to keep them informed of the daily posts relative to their keyword is losing a MAJOR marketing tool.

I get alerts each day to any blogs or sites that are posting something about my market.

I've used these posts to update my Squidoo lenses with RSS feeds and just now getting around to feeds on my blog/sites.

You have to filter out the crap as in anything else you do, but I set up an 'alert' for something new I'm doing, and the links and the content I've already seen are enough for me to write multiple articles and reviews (I have a review plug-in on my WP site that I'm doing this with).

I can't think of an easier way to keep an eye on your competition, after all, if it's a static site you'll not get an alert about it, but if someone is updating their content about something you'll have a notice everytime they do something...

Just a thought...

I agree Google Alerts are great.

Now you can get something much like Google Alerts but you get your words sent from Tweets.

  IMHO, Google Alerts is also Great to track where all your Blog Posts and Articles get syndicated and posted too!
  e.g. if you set an Alert on the Domain Name / URL you use for your Sig and/or in your "byline/resource box", you know?

GA is awesome for finding hot stories & current events related to your niche and using in your marketing to get traffic.

It's like a automated assistant to help you keep up to date with your market on the internet.

I've found that the results I get from GA correlates to a "hot keyword" (something that you can find on yahoo buzz or zeitgeist). I can tell from experience that you can piggy back on the buzz, create a marketing piece (article, Press Releases, broadcast etc) and get traffic and more $ from the GA keyword you're monitoring.

I use Google alerts to keep track of everytime my articles are picked up by another article directory. It helps me to keep track of my new backlinks.

I use GA to see what my competitors are doing.

We picked up a very hot marketing "tip" by seeing what our competitors were doing.
By using their domain name in GA we were alerted every time they showed up and where they showed up.

Never though of Google Alert to track keywords, this is a great tips!
