How do I take a video of myself?

I know that I can use camtasia or camstudio to do a screen capture. However, I need to make a video recording of myself with no time limit. Anyone know how I can do this? Are there any programs?

Should I just use the youtube feature and then download it and delete the youtube video?

Any ideas you guys have is appreciated.

Are you going to use a webcam? Do you have Windows Movie Maker? If you have that you are in business, unless you are going to use a video camera, but the windows movie maker should work OK for you anyway. How many bells and whistles do you need? Do you need special effects edited in etc?
    Thanks, Ed

Windows Movie Maker is an editing program... it doesn't capture
the video. Your webcam should record the file to your hard drive...
then use Movie Maker for the clean up.

How about giving Viddler a go, you'll need a webcam, but it's free and pretty straight forward so you can get things up and running from the off

    kind regards

You do not have a video camera? Most point and shoot cameras have a video feature.

How about a smart phone, do you have a iphone or a droid? They have a built in camera.

I personally use the webcam built into my laptop with a white projector screen behind me (optional), and after I get the video shoot that I like I then use Camtasia. I upload the clip of me talking on Camtasia, then edit it if necessary (i.e. get rid of extended pauses at the beginning and end).

Next... Yeah - as you mentioned, most of the free services do not like promotional videos - which can be a problem. Additionally, most free services have other limitations on file size and vide time length restrictions. I have over six hours of videos, and also need high res - which is offered at some services but not others.

So I ended up going ahead and buying the Screencast service offered by techsmith (Screencast.com <- not an affiliate link - just a plain old good recomendation), which is the developer of Camtasia & Snagit. True, it's $9.95 / month, but is a great service and you don't need to worry about your account getting deleted for any of the restrictions mentioned above.

It's not free, but it's great and I have no plans of using another media server after I started using Screencast - it's exactly what I need and is a quality service.

Anyway, hope you find the solution that is right for you - this is another idea for you.

      Best wishes,

      Randall

Question: "How do I take a video of myself?"
        Answer: You have two options:
        A. Since you stated that you have a web-camera, simply launch the interface to said webcam and use the built-in feature to make a video of yourself talking to your web cam. Once that's done, open up WMM (Windows Movie Maker) and start editing to your hearts content! :-)

        B. If you have access to an digital camera, set it to video mode, put the camera on a tri-pod or something else so it's about eye level and do it that way. Once the video is done, hookup said digital camera to your pc, access the memory card or built-in hard drive and copy the video over to your hard-drive. Open up WMM, import video and start editing

        C. If you have access to handi-cam or digital camcorder, perform the same steps above for Digital Camera and WMM.

        Hope that helps?
