Okay...talk to me like I'm six years old

I have been studying Internet marketing for a while now. I know, in general, what people are doing to make money online. They're creating and selling products and services (mostly information products and services), and they're selling other people's products as affiliates. They're using methods to get a lot of traffic and to get ranked high on the search engines, they are using the best sales copy, and they are networking. I get all that.

Right now, though, I am suffering from information overload. I have information coming at me from so many directions that I am stalled at the starting gate.

What I would like is an outline. For example, an outline of how to prepare and launch a niche website that can do well by itself and that can also help sell related affiliate products. One...simple...outline. A place to start, that I can naturally tweak and build on later.

If anyone would like to help, please remember that I don't know what all of the IM terms mean, or how to do everything IM's do. I know some, but certainly not all.

I would appreciate any help. This is a great forum. I've jumped in and contributed what I can, and now I'm (a little tentatively) asking for some help.

Thank you in advance!

I have dealt with this before, and my 2 cents is just to focus on one specific technique that you find interesting, try it out for the technique's recommended timeframe (usually at least a month), if you get results then repeat what you did to get those results, if not then time to quit and try a new one.

Honestly the hardest part of this business is being patient, and its not easy to develop that, especially when bill collectors are calling.

The simple start is a "BLOG" platform... best solution, install wordpress on your webhost, and start posting unique and quality content about your niche subject...

a blog platform, is very important for gaining website traffic, and popularity... because the search engines as well as other websites LOVE blogs... especially if they are periodically updated with new content with good information on the subject.

If you are interested in product creation, Kevin Riley is currently in week 3 of a 6 week course called Product Creation Lab. It is currently being held here under Private forums. I am a certified "Kevin Riley" fan so I am enrolled in the course.

Talk about worth the money. Too late to enroll now but he is going to package the videos and lessons when it is over. I would recommend it highly. Anything that Kevin Riley writes especially about the basics and the subject of product creation is worth the price and very beneficial.

So you have information overload and your solution is...more information?!

Bad girl...bad girl. (well you wanted me to talk to you like you were 6 years old!)

What you need to do is pick just ONE of those products you have and actually follow the instructions step by step instead of just buying products and reading them.

Now go play nicely with the other girls.

I knew that *somebody* wouldn't be able to resist that temptation, Andrew!

Do I really have to play nice?

    Hi Tracy,

You know far more than is needed to make money online. People like to over mystificate the IM world, and if a beginner wants to know all and does learning only, then years will go away and she'll earn nothing.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to underestimate the big picture of the Make Money Online thing. I already know from my experience that it has too many components and the parts are linked to each other.

But for a beginner not necessary everything to know to the departure. Much more important, that let she start doing something. According to me the learning more efficient if the man practises it what she learned.

I know that the fresh and even fresher informations received daily may divert us from our aim easily. These can stream without end from different sources at least two-three dozens a day.

Someone will never get away nowhere because there will be novelties, which do not let it she alone, if somebody thinking it to herself: 'maybe that will be better than this' and pays attention to the new informations only.

You must to stop here and BEGIN TO DO SOMETHING. Andrew Cavanagh wrote for you:

"What you need to do is pick just ONE of those products you have and actually follow the instructions step by step instead of just buying products and reading them."

Please employ this advice and act accordingly. Is worth it, you notice it then. Why I say this? Because myself passed through this phase before I proceeded. (I've an offline business since 1990 and am online since 2006, so I know what I'm talking about.)

    Go Tracy, Go!

    Many successes,

    Sandor

Face the fear... feel the fear... do it anyway.

The truth is there is no personal measuring stick for
      success without having experienced failure.

Let me make you a solemn promise...

You will fail... many times... some small... some large.
It's part of the process. It's unavoidable. It's a good
      thing.

For some, those failures will be the end of the line. For others
they will be the catalyst that motivates them to great success.

It's okay to take a step backward now and then so long as
you regroup and take two steps forward.

Failure isn't final unless you decide it is.

Choose a product you really like. Just one product to start. It can be a physical or electronic product.

Figure out what "niche" that product falls under. I will use an example of blenders.

Find where/how your product you want to sell is being sold online. Some times the products will have an affiliate program directly connected with the company, sometimes the only way to sell the product is by joining amazon or commission junction, etc. See who else is selling that product and investigate how they are selling it. Be sure you can sign up somewhere to get paid for promoting the product. Be sure you have used the product yourself and endorse it. The more passionate you feel about the product the better. It helps to like the company selling the product and that they have a reliable reputation as well.

Ok, now I'm going to do a little keyword research, and choose a domain name for my product. The product name would be nice to include in the domain, but I can also broaden the name of the domain for more inclusive words that will give me more to sell.

        I settle for bestblenderrecipes.com
I will be targeting people looking up drink recipes, and those looking for a new blender all in one shot.

Next, I install a blog on my host using simplescripts as it will take less than 5 minutes. There is a video here to show you just how fast it can be.

        Viddler.com - 4 Minute Website - Uploaded by avenuegirl

Ok, blog is installed, and I will now add a few plugins. You can find a list of recommended plugins here on the WF.

I will take a little time and get a free WP theme as well. I may spend an hour or so, and load up a couple of them cause I will have to flip them around a bit and decide what looks best.

Next, I will go and find some blender recipes. I will probably videotape myself making some of the drinks as well and load up the new videos to a youtube account and some other video sharing sites. This is not necessary, but I personally have had great success with video.

I will make blog posts about blender drinks, and will discuss my favorite blender and all the things to go with it. I can blog about blender stories and special occasions where a blender is a must have.

Somewhere along the line, I will start up an autoresponder for aweber. I will put together a report that is either a collection of the top 10 recipes, or perhaps I have a coupon code that I got from the company to sell the blender at a discount, but I will put together a little something for people to sign up for and get some kind of present or benefit.

Next, I might write some articles on the history of the blender. I might do some other articles on the benefits of blender drinks. I might add a poll to the blog asking people what their favorite drink is.

I will join a forum about cooking or food or drinks or what ever I can find to post some good information and add my link to my signature.

I will take some time to start socialbookmarking my pages, and I will show the pages to my other stumble friends for them to stumble. (there is a lot more that can go here)

I will visit yahoo answers and see if anyone has questions on drinks and blenders.

Now, I have some content building and some backlinks building in on my site. I will be sure to email my list and remind them to come back and visit my blog.

I'll add some adsense to the blog. I'll join some blogging communities like blogcatalogue.

I'll keep an ear to the ground to see what new things my favorite blender company is promoting and I'll be sure to try out their new products.

Then, when I'm all blendered out for a while, I will look for some more products to add that will fit with my site. Perhaps some special mugs or martini glasses. Or even better if there is a soup that is made with the blender I will find some lovely bowls and soup spoons. I will keep searching for everything and anything I can connect to the use of the blender and why it is the best blender in the world.

Ok, I don't feel well today and there is much more, but this should be enough to keep you busy for a week or two.

I will promise you one thing. You will not be able to single handedly blow up the internet no matter what you do. There is nothing to fear. Should by some freak of nature you do blow up the internet I might actually have to thank you for saving me from reading the 600 emails sitting in my inbox.

The biggest mistake you will make is the one of "inaction."

        inaction
        Noun
        lack of action; inertia

Some of the things above may have a mini learning curve, and my answer to that is google until you find the answer of what you need to know.

Yep, it's funny reading about how people are scared to get started.
I think you'll quickly realize that after a few failures you'll stop feeling
scared and start feeling driven to avoid making the same mistake twice.

Eventually, amongst some failures and fewer successes, you'll find that
you no longer make mistakes because you've found your OWN system
that you can nail down to a process to generate income.

        Rinse
        Repeat
        Rinse
        Repeat

Failure is not an option, it's a damn necessity to success, so just make
sure you get the failures out of your system as quickly as possible.

Thank you, Tsnyder. I really do believe that we are our only roadblocks. The "Auntie Em" statement was in jest. It hasn't been so much fear; more like indecision--which I've used as an excuse to procrastinate. I'm not afraid to fail, because I know that everything is just a learning experience toward success.

I really did need the kick in the rear, which I have so artfully gotten here. Thank you!
