Hey guys,

So I'm making a course and am FTPing some things up, obviously I don't really wanna show any usernames, password keystrokes or even the sites I have on my hosting account, I was wondering how to you go about blurring this sort of info out?

  • if you are using Camtasia you simply add a blur callout
  • I'm using camstudio

    Thanks
  • does not look like it is available in Canstudio, there was an earlier thread here

someone suggested using the 30 day trial of camtasia instead.
  • Be careful to double check the blur out in Camtasia....I speek from experience, it doesn't last that long. It's best to expand out the timeline on Camtasia around the areas you're trying to use the callout on. This will allow you to literally advance the video by the second to see if your callout quits and allows brief viewing of anything you don't want seen before it starts again. I currently have a video on Youtube that very briefly shows a passoword due to my not catching it when I was editing in Camtasia.

I thought it would be easier to change the password than redo the video but just wanted to give you a heads up....

    Good luck with your video!

    • Just to clarify...

The Blur callout in Camtasia will last as long as you want it to. Just stretch or contract it in the timeline to fit the amount of time it needs to be.

Also, it's best to NOT move or scroll a screen with sensitive info on it when doing the screen recording.

This way, you can easily blur the info without chasing it all over the screen with the blur callout.
  • Thanks for the link, I actually have camtasia, but prefer using camstudio (go figure), but I guess I could probably shoot my video in camstudio and edit in camtasia right?

    Thanks for your help

    • You could create a blurry transparancy in something like photoshop, and then overlay it on the video in the areas you are trying to blur.

    • Just so you know you're not the only one. Josh 'video guy' Anderson does too. This might have been the definitive camtasia / camstudio thread in this forum.
