Why does my domian cost thousands?

i have business in in the field of weight loss and i tried to go on godaddy and i put in my business name and tried to use a dot com they wanted $2500 a year for the domian. i search the net and nothing pops up with fitness but they said the name is popular. So I got the name but had to add somthing to the end of it. That domian coast me like $27 year for it.

Is there way to get my domian a dot com instead of paying thousands for it.

It sounds to me like someone else already owns the domain and that's what they're asking for it.

That's totally the right answer... I would suggest trying to discuss the the price with the current owner of the site.. Do a whois and try to track down the owner... If they aren't using the domain at the moment I'm pretty sure they will be willing to part with it for less $$$.. However if the owner is making money off the domain (or perhaps even just stopping competition) then you are probably better off just finding a new domain... It always sucks when you have a good idea and someone else has it already... but they aren't even using it... ugh... this happens to me all the time...

There are many people out there just sitting on domain names waiting for them to become usefull to someone and then getting the maximum price.

I would expect the one you want is maybe a .com with only two words in the name?

Is it essential that you need the one you posted about here as with a little research I have found you can still get great two word maximum .coms and this is something I am quite good at.

Is it possible for you to grab another good name or is it vital to what you want to do that you have the one that you wanted or something similar.

If the name is not that important but you just need a good name maybe you could give more info on the one you bought in the end and maybe we can help more?

Hi did you mean 2 words (onetwo .com) or 2 letter ab .com? Man those domains are gold. Even one word domains are premium ones, it's possible that godaddy kept some premium domains to sell it on higher price.

Just go for a new domain with a regular fee; spending $1000s on one domain and create a niche site is not worth it (it could be, sometimes); People spend so much on domains if they want to create a brand site.

Did they want $2500 a year, or was it just $2500 to buy the domain? I bet once you own it you will pay normal yearly prices.

I think you're talking about Premium Domain Names that is already owned but you can become its new owner by paying their premium price.

That's Godaddy selling you a 'premium' domain. Means that someone owns it and is selling it to you and godaddy is acting as a broker. Once you own a domain, you only have to pay normal prices yearly - around $10.

With the greatest of respect if someone already owns the name (as they must do in the case you are citing – if not it would be $9.99 at the most for any .com name) then you cannot expect them to sell it to you for $27.

If they had the foresight to buy it before you then you can’t blame them for it can you?

They could already have done SEO/work on this domain and it could already be getting traffic.

There are people out there who make thousands just from being first to the post and buying up names on spec, but you can’t blame them for doing it.

My advice is the minute you have an idea for a domain name, buy it the same day, do not wait, do not hesitate.

But to answer your query if someone already owns your desired .com domain then you can’t force them to sell it to you.

As others have mentioned its a domain that someone is selling,if it is a established old domain it could well be a good buy this all depends if you have a deep pocket it could actually give you a head start over a new domain it may well be worth checking out if it has any backlinks etc.

You can still pick up a good 'new' domain if you sit down and try and think of something original, the trouble is the weight loss niche is really saturated hence good domain names are a premium and this is why they are asking a price tag of $2500 that would be the outright buying price and not a year.

Its a tough one to call if it was me i would go down the route of my own new one maybe using a .net instead of a .com it may give you a better choice.Good luck with what ever option you choose

another thing if I may add, check the whois for its expired date. Sometimes people let it expire in which you can backorder it.
