I think it depends on your purpose for the site.
Joomla has lots of GREAT extensions (Modules, Components, and Plugins) which can help to suit lots of more advanced functions.

Plus, Joomla has a very wide community and lots of developers, which always keep free modules and even commercial mods available.

I use both on the same domain. Wordpress, for blog purposes, has better automatic updates via pings.

What is your purpose and I will change my answer one way or another :-)

The purpose of this poll is i make niche web sites that i sell as WSOs, and i supply each site with a matching WP Theme and i was thinking of adding a matching Joomla Theme as well but wanted to see if there would be any interest in supplying these as well.

I have used both and they each have their advantages/disadvantages. I am also going to use both in the future.

I agree, I think it also depends on what you are trying to do with your site.

Looks and sounds intriguing Big Mike. Can't wait to try it out.

As for my answer to the question... WordPress. I find it easier to customize than Joomla, but maybe that's just me. I use both, but definitely prefer WordPress.

    Wordpress hands down.
Joomla seemed so difficult to work with.
Wordpress is a breeze compared to Joomla.
Will be looking out for Big Mikes version though.

While Joomla has a lot more functionality, I still prefer WordPress, because of the ease of use.

I vote Wordpress. I have worked with Joomla a LOT, but for some reason Wordpress doesn't make me cry as much as Joomla.

By the way, BIG MIKE, can you PLEASE check your support desk tickets??????

        Definitely Joomla!

It does have a steep learning curve at the beginning (took me about 2 months to 'fully' understand it), but it pays a lot to know in the long run.

Plus, with all those components, plugins and modules that makes life easier to live, dynamic websites easier to build and businesses easier to run.

Right now 90% of my sites are created with Joomla. The rest? Wordpress.

Hey, I may sound a Joomla-natic, but I would go with Joomla any day, anytime, anywhere...bar none.

    Hi SpudDS,

I prefer WordPress because I can figure it out and easily install themes. I thought I liked Drupal better for a while but Drupal caused me a lot of problems when I tried to customize it.

I like joomla better. I am however contemplating a switch to Drupal. Drupal seems to have more add-ons, all of which are free. Do a google search and tell me what you think.

Drupal is a pig to work with unless you are the uber-geek :-) Seriously, unless you have a nuclear physics degree, leave Drupal to the programmers and nerds

Wordpress all the way for me - it's got and does everything.

Joomla gives me goosepumps. It really, really does!

My old teaching resource sites were powered using Joomla and Virtuemart and the learning curve was steep.

I've always found Wordpress pretty easy to use while I found Joomla a beast to work with. Just my personal experience though.

Things are much easier smoother these days now that I can just Skype Roy and have him take care of all things "tech" for me

    Cheers!

WordPress, but it is the "theme" that makes WordPress attractive and easily customizable. Not just any theme as there are a few premium themes that are very easy to modify.

Joomla runs second as my favorite CMS, but it is a membership manager's dream come true whem aMember is integrated for membership sites. Though v.1.6 might just make aMember obsolete.

Joomla is superior to WP in my opinion, but requires a greater degree of knowledge to make it productive. I think you have to be a wee bit interested in the technical side of things to want to use Joomla. If you aren't so inclined, I would pick WP...

    It depends...

For quick to go i prefer Wordpress

but for a serious big project where i may need a custom web application written
to handle the needs of the project, i always go with Joomla and customize it
until i find it working exactly the way i wanted for that project..and Joomla 1.5 is just so great, with template overrides we can transform joomla to
the point where it does not seems a joomla :-)

    Best Wishes,
    Mohsin Rasool
