I have no hard data to back this up, but I'm confident...

You'll Make More $$$ On This Forum If You...

Put up a real picture of yourself.

Now I know not everyone has the hot looks of Eric Louviere, but I'm willing to bet adding a happy pic to your avatar will do wonders for you.

Why?

1. People will remember you easier
2. People will trust you more
3. People will associate you face with something or someone they recognize
4. They may have the hots for you
5. They will be able to pick you out at a seminar.

I could keep going and going.

The internet is changing very fast, and those who are not afraid of transparency stand to make a lot more cash then those who are hiding behind the scenes and afraid to show their face.

Anyhow, it's just my opinion. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it.

J-Mo

PS: Allen, thanks for giving the forum a more personal feel. I like it way better, and have already been able to use the pics of people to remember a lot more users.

    • That's Funny Thomas, I think I should look into putting up a picture.

Jason, Someone should take a poll on the pros and cons of putting up a picture or not.

  • Yep, you're probably right about that.
They also say that your pic on your site, blog, sales letter, etc.
is better for conversions than not having one.

I'm gonna test it out an put up a pic on the WF.
I'll let you know what happens...

    • Can someone make sure Allen Says sees this post?

Then again, I think he's doing just fine as a monkey.

  • The picture is a really cool thing. Personally, when we switched to the new forum, I got to know so many more people due to associating a face with a forum name. Pretty cool how this made a difference.

Transparency is really an interesting development online. I just bought a product from someone who has answered tons of my emails and sends free gifts my way. He's a person, not an email address. This definitely made a difference on why I bought his product.

I second the changes to the forum. I learn something new every day and this new functionality has really increased the "networking" potential here!

    Cheers,

    Brad Spencer
  • I hate to admit it, but I agree there is some truth to being able to relate to the seller.
Because, after you build your list, then your work hard to establish TRUST with the people on your list. And with the feeling of TRUST, they then feel confident to buy from you!

  • I agree, the photos help me remember who's who and makes the person seem more real.

Dont' worry about your looks, just put up a picture! It's more about being a real person, it's not a beauty contest.

I will offer photochopped facelifts to all you vein warriors for your avatar for just $97.

You too can have a dazzling white smile, no wrinkles, and a face that sells!

See my picture? Bet you all didn't realize I'm really 80 years old. Here is before I gave myself a facelift with photoshop
  • Sup Moffatt,

Get your approach, but figured I'd share this with all:

A copywriter I knew was forced by his client to put a portrait of this person.

Conversions went down because this person is ugly as hell.

It was actually split-tested. This was in the IM market too.

So make of it what you will.

  • I love seeing people's faces when I read their posts. It really helps to put a face with a name and I think it brings us closer as a community. Aw, I am getting cheesy now.
  • So true! So true!

I finally put up my photo
  • and it gives us girls the benefit of some eye candy from time to time
  • I'd just message you on facebook
  • Seems my post was not in vein after all. Cheers for backing up what many others will contest against in online marketing!

  • That's great information. I personally hate it when people don't use pictures. If I go to a meetup and haven't seen your face, how do I know it's you? Pictures are an absolute must in my book for optimal results in networking.

    • It's something I've thought about in the past, but I never really did it because I think if you are relatively young, people won't take you seriously enough.

However, I'm almost 22 now, so I'm getting on a bit

(that comment should stir it up a bit )
    • Okay, I'll post my photo.

Uh, does it matter if it doesn't have anything to do with Crafts? This is one of my favorite photos.

    • Great Thread.

I think it is absolutely great to see pictures of the people on this forum. I agree that it can bring people together and probably increase credibility and sales.
  • Hey Jason,

I completely agree. A real photo of yourself is a key factor in branding yourself. People want to know who they are talking to AND that you are a real person.

In addition, it is important to include contact information. I cannot tell you how many people have joined various teams with me because they knew how to contact me and I was not just a vague person on the other side of a computer.

I am a real person and people love that personal touch in this day of the internet.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Many blessings.
  • I definitely agree with this. For me personally, it is difficult to take someone serious who has a cartoon photo representing them in life.

Maybe I need to loosen up a bit, but I doubt it. I def agree with you that people who put themselves out there will make more . . . from me anyway!
  • nice one. that's oh-so-true. I'll put one this coming days
  • Hey there Jason,

I have to be 100% honest with you I instantly recognize on this forum because I've seen you on Youtube (I'm a subscriber :-) but honestly I certainly wouldn't of recognized if you hadn't that avatar picture of you.

So I completely agree with you having a picture of yourself to be identified
is really a must if your trying to make a name for yourself on the internet!

    Regards,

    -Alex Kaplo

P.S I won't forget your name anymore bro ..haha! Have a great day!
  • What if you're really really ugly and your picture only puts ppl off the sight of you lol Might even be a negative for your business haha

    • IMO I have to reply to this! I personally to do all the time and always start by saying ...

"Yes that's me in the picture you see there, noting special to look at but you see you don't have to be anybody special to make it in this business!"

It gets people smiling and makes you a likable kind of guy.

  • I'm just glad we aren't required to use the photo on
our drivers licenses. Mine is hideous and I'm stuck
    with it for six years.

I also like the photos Warriors put on with their wives,
husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends and their kids. My favorite
on the forum is Amy Bass and her baby. I don't have any
kids but I'm thinking of rentin' a couple of them so I could
    fit in.

    T.W.
    • [1] reply
    • Tomas, you're not stuck with it. Walk into the DMV and let them know you've lost your license. For a small fee, they'll retake your picture and issue you a new license within weeks. voila.

  • Thanks John, but the problem is I'd still be a (soon
to be) 62 year old, one legged, bald guy. The picture
    I'm using here is from 2005 (pre-chemo) days. I've
kinda given up waitin' for my hair to grow back in. As
soon as I make a zillion dollars in IM I'm gonna go to
the same transplant guys that did Mike Filsaime's new
    hair. His looks great.

  • Transparency matters big time in this business.

It is impossible to work behind the scenes without exposing yourself on some level. People DO want to know who they are buying form. People by people after all.

There are obviously some exceptions to this rule (blackhat techniques, adsense farms, etc) but if you want to run a business that actually adds value to peoples lives, start adding videos, pics
  • Good point. Explains my success LOL

    • I recall Charlie Page running a special offer for Directory of Ezine members - his relative (brother?) is a photographer who would take your pic and touch it up real good and proper.. reducing bags under the eyes, double chin, crows feet etc.

Must drop him a JV mail - lots of business here then ;-)

      PUNCHLINE:
      Complete this sentence:

"You'll Make More $$$ On This Forum If You... look more like JLo than JMo :-)

(I used to do those consumer comp tiebreaker sentences years ago. Those were the days - buying 24 boxes of tampax just to be able to enter... )
  • I remember faces for sure, but I also remember people that put up quality information.

    • Hey Stephen,

It's a bit confusing, you can add a pic to 2 different sections... your profile pic, or your avitar pic... I see you already added your profile pic, but you need to add it as your avitar pic to show in your posts...

      http://www.warriorforum.com/profile.php?do=editavatar

I hope that helps you out.

      - Jared
    • Sorry, Stephen, but we have certain standards of attractiveness that must be met here, which is perhaps why your photo won't show. (You'll notice mine didn't make the cut here either!)

  • I don't have a photo on here yet. Question...is it best to use the same picture on all sites, like twitter, facebook and forums? Or mix it up a bit?
This is new to me, I find using the forums fun and inspiring and useful. I also would like to earn new followers and customers.
    Thanks Jan

    • Hey Jason,

Good point...looking to buy or not I think people need to feel comfortable in who they're dealing with even if it's just basic "net conversation".

On the other hand, some people are a pain in the a** and having a face to associate with the name could work against them in a way.

You likely have my name embedded in your melon! "Ahhhhhh, Mike Murphy...AGAIN......what now dude?"
