I am setting up my Aweber account and notice in the emails, my address is in the footer of the message. Right now it is showing my home address which I definitely don't want. It looks like due to can-spam I need to have an address in there. Is this correct? If so do you recommend I get a PO box? I see there are some online P.O. box options. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

I'm in the US and rent a PO box from my local post office. That's what I use for all biz communication, including Aweber.

Another possiblity that I prefer is one of the private mailbox places -- the ones I've been to don't require that you use the word "box" in the address (for instance, you can say "1234 Main St #202, Yourtown CA 91109" instead of "Box 202"). That way it looks more like an actual office instead of a PO Box.

I've never had an actual PO Box so I don't know what the pricing difference is, but I bet they're pretty close.

Private ones cost way more, like $20 a month vs $25 or so for 6 months at the post office. The difference is partly service level- you can call the private one and ask if your box has mail in it, for example.

You can use "POB" instead of "Box" if you like.

According to postal regulations the private ones are supposed to use "PMB" (private mail box) rather than "suite" to prevent passing them off as offices, although like most regulations it seems to be up to the individual worker as to whether the mail gets delivered.

I don't see the problem with it being a PO box. Many big companies use them for a mailing address, and how many subscribers actually look at that address at the bottom or care? Many people are still not putting an address there that CAN-SPAM requires.

I don't think it's a problem either -- just my preference and an alternate idea. It does cost quite a bit more, but you can also use the box address for all business communications, not just for the autoresponders (put it on your business cards, any snail mail correspondence, etc. instead of using your home address).

I agree if they ever start enforcing the PMB rule that difference will be erased, but the rule has been on the books for 20 years and I haven't heard of anyone enforcing it yet.

I just grabbed a PO Box from my post office for mine. It costs like $20/year or something.

I got one recently and it was €250 a year (which is about U.S. $315). That's probably why I'm
      only number 26.

Sounds like a great idea to get a PO Box. I agree that you don't want your home address showing. I know a few people in Canada that get US PO Boxes also.

Best to get a p.o. box from your local post for aweber. Saves you from hassles and keeps you organized.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to go to the post office later this week and set up a P.O. Box address.
