Before I publish my article to my website I should...?

Hi all,

So I have made my first website, got a standard theme up and I am about to publish my first article.

Is there any simple software you could recommend for working out key work density? How important are metatags? Basically what is the process for optimising an article, because after it has sat on my website for a few days I plan to start submitting it to ezines and the likes.

Also for analysing titles?

All the best,

Ben G.

P.S It is much more fun to actually be working on this than sat back thinking about it, glad to have taken the plunge.

I still make extensive use of meta tags, specifically the keyword tag and description tag.

As far as keyword density....I think somwhere around 2% - 3% is about right. Typically that is your keyword phase used 3-4 times for a 500 word article.

Optimization includes the article title and the use of the alt tag with images - I'm talking about your webpage and not an article submitted for publication.

I also utilize an internal linking structure that focuses on in-context links. This is where the link is embeded in the content of the article and not on the side or bottom of the page in a menu.

    Respectfully,
    Tim

      2% - 3% on a 500 word article is more like 10 - 15 times.

You have really taken good step by STARTING.

Just ensure that your keyword density isn't more than 3 percent in any article you write.

From this beginning, it may be better if you go through the drill and try to do your writings and setting up the titles.

This will enable you to master the acts and know what to look out for when you can afford to outsource

Just a little "fine-print tip" but if you're intending to submit that article later to Ezine Articles with a link to your site in the resource-box (and there's no possible downside to doing that), keep the "keyword density" at 2% or less, in accordance with their rules: it'll save having to rewrite some of it unnecessarily later.

"Readability" and quality matter a lot more than keyword density anyway, honestly: being "too keyword-heavy" can also make it heavy going for people to read. Just an observation. Good luck with your first article!

Using Firefox plugin SEO Quake, I can see the keyword density of any web site page. That is a free tool you can use to see your own keyword density. It will also show you title, tags and description.

In the body of your article, link back to your index page with your main keyword. So somewhere in the middle of your article, highlight the keyword and make it link to your home page, opening in a different browser window. That is good on-page SEO, otherwise known as intralinking - a link to yourself from yourself. Every content page on your site should have that kind of link.

As soon as your article page is indexed in Google, you have proven ownership of the article and can confidently submit to article directories.

Best of luck to you with your site!

Yes, good time to do it. Also at your site put up an about, contact and privacy page. Pronto. Use All-in-One SEO plugin for getting just the description, meta tag and meta title you want. I like contact form 7 and easy privacy policy. For the about page, just write a three sentence blurb about your keyword and send people to your contact page with a link, too.
