Trying another approach...Thoughts please...

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum but have been dabbling in IM for about 1 1/2 yrs now. Just to give some background, I'm familiar with SEO principles, PPC and affiliate marketing.

I used to have a health and beauty content based affiliate website but I found that promoting the site was very expensive and too time consuming and since it wasn't bringing in the $ I had hoped, I had to shut it down.

I gave IM up for a while and went back to work in IT where I'm currently working. I do enjoy IM so I'm always on the lookout for the next thing where I can apply some of my time and resources to make a few extra bucks.

Here at the forum I discovered mini-sites and wanted to get some opinions about them. I would like to try my hand at Adsense sites. I was looking to purchase one of these mini-sites in a particular niche and grow it with various sources of content while promoting it.

I would greatly appreciate some advice on this type of venture. Are there reputable folks I can purchase the site from (I see so many sellers on this forum)? Has anyone else walked this path? Is anyone doing Adsense mini-sites and where should I begin? What should I beware of and look out for?

With so many people selling so many things I don't want to get taken advantage of and waste my already hard earned cash. I appreciate all advice. Thanks.

Tom

Don't bother wasting your time making google even richer by slaving away trying to get them and yourself some adsense revenue. My honest advice would be to use a certain amount of your day job income to build an online business, not just chase some affiliate checks.

In other words, focus on building assets such as email lists, your own products (you can just start out with $5 reports and go from there) and also forming some good jv relationships. In reality, those are the things that are gonna help you do it full time and potentially make a very good living. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. So, don't bother with Adsense sites? I'm not a very creative person so making a product won't come easy to me I don't think.

It sounds like you've identified your direction and even your passion. You don't necessarily need a "product", either yours personally or one you are an affiliate for.

If you provide a site or sites that have value to an audience and then drive them to your site, you will be able to monetize that effectively.

If you get the traffic...you can make money from it.

There are a wide array of free traffic generating strategies.
          Article Marketing
          Traffic Exchanges
          Social Networking

          Just to name a few.

There's no need to be some sort of leonardi da vinci type genius when it comes to internet marketing. There are the evergreen markets such as relationships, make money online and weight loss/health and fitness. Just look for opportunities to improve upon what's already selling.

Also, if you get good at list building in certain niches, people will simply come along with products for you to promote and in some cases, products that you may just have to put your name to, but I'm talking once you start making a mark in a certain niche. I'd definitely look to spend a certain amount of you job income on doing this sort of stuff and before you know it you'll be on your way to a decent online business.

Here's my thought, and it's probably not the sort of response you're expecting... what's your true motivation behind being an internet marketer? Is it just to find a scheme? To set up a profitable click arbitrage system? Well, what if Google goes and slaps your site? Then what happens?
Now suppose you built your business on passion. Suppose you built your business on sharing true value with people. A business based on true passion and value is an asset that won't just weasel you some money today but will be a true career. Trying to keep up with the latest arbitrage schemes is no fun, but sharing value with people every day is the key to a sustainable business.
Thank you for the reply. My motivation is two-fold; first, I want to gain knowledge about a particular subject then share that knowledge and collaborate with like-minded people and second, to make a few bucks. Not get rich mind you but just make enough to say, pay for lunch daily to start or something.

I want it to be an authoritative site and would like to become a subject matter expert in the process. I'm picking this up as a hobby not to replace my current income. I love my daily job and don't have any intentions of replacing it.

I have no intention of "weaseling" money from anyone. Believe me, I have been burned my fair share of times and I have no intention on burning others. I simply need some direction on how and where to start. If I find that the idea is easily monitized then I'll change my focus and mindset to be more business-like and take it from there.

I hope I've clarified. Again, thank you for your reply.
