Would you mind checking out my site?

Hi there,

I have been traveling a lot over the last 10 years, before settling down in Hong Kong.

I decided to create a couple of tourist/ guides sites for several countries.

The first one is www (dot) iluv (dot) hk
I was wondering if you guys could give me some reviews and tips on what my next steps should be. I try to drive traffic through twitter and Facebook, and it is picking up, but I feel I am missing something here.

Thnks for your help
Ash

Well it looks okay... I don't like the JAT3 framework with joomla though, K2 is okay but JAT3, makes it very difficult to fully customize. I think you should have went with the mixxmag template or something out of the box that can offer a lot more for your site.

Other than that, the site is okay, I think if you had borders lining the module positions it would look a lot better!

Spend a bit more time on the warrior forum and you'll quickly find your answers. At least you had guts to ask for advice which I have yet to do but here's my suggestions:

      1. get an autoresponder and seperate squeeze page to feed it, rather than your subscribe to newsletter
      2. What is your USP? Why would I join?
      3. I bet you have some great travel tips. Pick the best 10, write an ebook, make a video and audio and ta-dah, you now have a product that will help me when I travel to HK. (btw, that was your USP)
      4. What the heck are you selling anyway? You should have 1-2 affiliate products or service and promote that.
      5. Buy some WSOs and consider it investing in your future. Find a guru you really like and promote his stuff on your site.
      6. Get a .com name unless you're going to market to korean's...
      7. Too many things for a user to do/see. Cut it down to simple and you'll make your life easy. First make money. Then add it as a membership site. Then make more money.
      8. Build a list and market to your list. Give them free stuff but then start delivering what they want.

.hk will only rank you well in Google HK I believe. Get a .com and broaden your audience to the whole English speaking world.

          I think so too.

as far as I can remember I never had a .hk site in any SERPs. (from Europe)

from a first view: the site looks too overloaded to me. no clear layout. I don't get an idea whats your site about within 10 seconds (first-time visitors decide in a few seconds if they stay or not)

    Hey.
Don't forget to promote it in social media, on networks, write SEO-friendly content, so that readers can find your stories in an easier manner.

The rest of it is up to you. Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Roxanne

    Hey All,

Thank you all for your advice and info.

I am going to go through all your comments, and see how I can incorporate them.

    1) already doing Facebook and Twitter marketing
    2) Writing an ebook - That is a great idea!
    3) I have a domain: iluvcities.com, which i will use to redirect traffic to the HK site.

    Thanks all!

Great info. The design could definitely be a lot cleaner though. Good work.

  • I have to agree that it's a bit 'busy' looking, but it's very informative. I think you're on to something with that idea.

I had one question though for the people who feel the site is too busy. Do you mean there is too much happening on the sides of the page? or is the main content not popping out enough?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3730950].message }}
  • That was my point, exactly. Where is the content? Or is it just a mish-mash of information? There is so much going on I really can't tell what you want me to look at.

The adsense block at the top right; is that giving you good return? If not, maybe change that because that instantly gave me a "cheap" feeling. It could be just me, maybe others won't have any issue with that. Just that block, the site looks good though.

Maybe a few videos will catch a few eyeballs. I would surely want to watch a video or two.

    My .02 cents

    All the best.
