I am just making a choice, which domain name to take for my weight loss product..

Which one do you suggest or it doesn`t really matter? I have this options.

healthyturbodiet.com
healthy-turbodiet.com
healthyturbo-diet.com
healthy-turbo-diet.com

I prefer the first or last one. You?

Many thanks

I'd personally go with no dashes, because it makes it easier to tell people your url when talking face-to-face. Plus, it is easier to remember (for me at least!).

Nowadays it doesn't really matter whether you have a hyphen in your domain or not so long as they are not in weird places, lets face it, the tired old excuse of face to face communication is bovine scat when you consider that everyone uses links on Google or Facebook to find sites now...

Seriously, how many people are you realistically going to tell face to face?

Keep hyphens to just ONE or maybe TWO at the absolute outside and you should be fine...and if I did like any of those names I would have no problem with registering them myself, you shouldn't shout out to the world what you are planning to do here before you do it.

By the way, I don't like any of them.

  • first one..if you think this is a very sought after set of keywords. register them all to eliminate the competition.

If they are all available, I would go with the first one. That looks the nicest. I have some of the offset hyphen domains. They rank just fine, and nobody has ever told me they did not go to my site because the hyphens were strange looking.

But the first is nice, especially if you are going to be building a brand.

Unless you are a MAJOR brand or starting one with a huge bankroll this is quite possibly the most idiotic advice you could ever give anyone...even Youtube did not get every permutation of every single typo that anyone would ever make or buy any other domains to "strengthen" their position.

Telling people to buy every domain to protect themselves is a cheap trick of domain registrars; it is based on fear of loss and should be banned.

Just an idea...but i now see how stupid my advice sounds. i was thinking in another context.

I vote for the first. I feel hyphens is a bit like not being able to grab .com and having to take .net or .org. It makes it look like you didn't have the first choice i.e. the best one.

I've had good success with ranking sites with dashes, but if you ever want to sell your site, you probably won't get as much money with dashes in your domain name.

    My vote: healthyturbodiet.com

You probably have decided to go for the first one by now and that is what I would have done myself also. But I do have few domains with several dashes as well and these are doing very good as well. As long as it feels right for you that matters.

I'd say #1 for sure. Looks like it's available too. Better buy it before someone swoops it up.

    Hi bross,

Definitely the first one as others have mentioned here.

The dashes are a "no no" in my opinion.

Of course we are not about talking about SEO but rather the long term value of the website. You can never really underestimate what is going to happen down the track with your website.

So on that note, I definitely agree with RevenueGal in regards to selling your website.

    So my Vote: healthyturbodiet.com

I wish you Turbo Style Luck with the website. :p

First one is my first choice.

    Last one second choice.

    Don't care much for 2nd and 3rd.

    Good luck...

All of that goes for me, too. I'd take the first one (or the last one).

For SEO purposes, they're all exactly the same. And Google's Matt Cutts says that, too - not just moi.

Is it really going to irritate a lot of people if I mention that these are not "dashes" but "hyphens", and that the two are entirely different punctuation-marks?

It will definitely irritate me, yes. This is a domain name, not creative writing, so the common term is 'dash' because it is used as a separator, not a punctuation mark. If the rules of proper writing do apply to domain names for some reason, then it's not a DOT com, it's a PERIOD com.

Seriously, though, as Alexa pointed out there is no SEO difference with any of them.

I would choose the first one just because it's easier for potential visitors to remember.

If it wasn't available, then I would choose the last one because it is the next easiest to remember.

The two in the middle would be very hard for someone to remember later on if it wasn't written down. Either use the dashes, er... hyphens, throughout, or don't use them at all.

I'd go with the first 1 if you still can.
