How to select a good clickbank product?

Hello!

I'm sorry if it's a silly question but how do you select a good clickbank product?

High gravity, high popularity are good indicators, but without actually buying the product itself, how do you know if it is suitable for your niche?

Thanks for your replies.

For many of us, they can be good indicators to run a mile and find another product instead, for all the reasons explained in this post.

If they help you all, Beatrice, my own Clickbank product selection criteria (little 10-point checklist) are explained in this post.

You need either to get a "review copy" from the vendor or to buy it (through your own affiliate link is ok as long as you don't then ask for a refund!). It's not like promoting a kettle or a TV from Amazon or elsewhere, where everyone knows exactly what they're buying: you wouldn't want to be promoting Clickbank products to your customers without even having seen them yourself ... your own reputation as a marketer attaches to them, whether you want it to or not, so take no chances, because in the long run that's your business's single most valuable asset.

There are some suggestions on "how to increase your chances of getting a free review copy" in this post, if they help.

    • Thank you very much Alexa for your detailed response. I only wish things were that clear in my head.

Like many beginners when selecting a product I was heading straight for the "high gravity and popularity" filters!

  • I have my own formula.

First is lifespan and gravity of the product which you can see in cb-analytics.com. If the lifespan is long and the gravity low, it means the product doesn't convert well. Don't go for this kind of product.

Second, type in google with keyword, product name+review, if you still can find a website promoting that product until page 5, it means the competition is too much.

So you need to find something in between, product that converts but not too much competition.

Third, don't promote product with little commission. Why? Because promoting $50 product and $20 product is the same. Both will give similar result.

With apologies for the contrarian tone, here, I'm afraid it just doesn't indicate that at all.

That combination - long lifespan and low gravity - applies to the best-converting and best-selling products I've ever promoted since I started. Even now, out of the 17 products I'm currently promoting in eight different niches, all three of my highest-selling and highest-converting products are long-lifespan, low-(around-four/five)-gravity products.

The vendor of one product I promote (older product, gravity about 4) has another, newer product with a gravity of 135 (which I don't promote) but the low-gravity, older product sells six or seven times as many copies, and has a better conversion-rate across its fewer, successful affiliates.

Another one of which I sell a lot (also a long-standing, higher-priced product with a gravity typically below 6, though it varies a little) also both out-converts and out-sells its less aged, much-higher-gravity "sister" from the same stable.

There are underlying, valid, coherent reasons for such products being a better bet for the affiliate: these things aren't exceptions, and they're not coincidences.

I shouldn't really argue with you: I'm happy for people to leave all those products for me and a few others to promote.

Here I strongly agree with you: that's exactly my experience, too. I prefer higher-priced products. In many (not all) niches, one can easily sell as many $97 products as $47/$37 products: one simply has to target the right traffic.
  • Yes, gravity is only an indication of how many affiliates have sold a copy in the last 30 days. Importantly, it doesn't tell you how many ATTEMPTED to sell a copy..regards Allen
