Is it worth using a free website hosting service to create your own website?

You can but to me, it's not worth it because they use their extension at the end of your domain name.

I wouldn't ever recommend it. Spend the $4 or $6 a month it costs for a reputable web host and you'll be glad you did.

I think most will steer you away from free hosting. Especially in light of the great hosting you can get at very attractive rates. Check out this WSO http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ting-more.html

Unless it's a personal website, you shouldn't even consider using free hosting. If you can't afford $5 /mo for web hosting, why do you run this website in the first place?

So he can afford the $5 a month.

Seriously, though, I doubt you'll find anyone that would recommend a free host, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. If necessary, I would check out Awardspace, but I would strongly recommend getting a 'real' host ASAP.

Having a website, though, even on a free server, is better than no website at all. You'll never make money online with no website. Actually, that's not true. You could be a bum marketer, but that's a whole different route.

I have used free hosting for years and some of them have had better up time than some of the paid hosting I have used. If you can't afford hosting, use free hosting, but hosting is cheap and you will have less problems with paid hosting.

          Hi Clint,

You are right, hosting issues will always be there even with free hosting. With that in mind, and if you do not mind sharing, what are your favourite free hosting providers that are problem free, in your experience?

Maybe thats the question a lot of us need answers to

  • Sites hosted on free hosting are obvious. Do you want your potential customers to think that you cant even afford a website? I sure hope your not considering using free hosting for the make money online niche ...

Every time I hear this question I like to at-least mention this company, it is because they are just so creative. I think when someone is asking about using a free hosting they are limiting there thoughts of how they can use free sites.

Take BooneOakley site, they don't have a website or a blog, but they have a site. In fact they use Youtube as their site, don't believe me and visit their HOME PAGE here:

They literally are using Youtube as their home page, and their annotation as a way to navigate the site. Not to mention they are getting TONS of sales from it. So YES, you can use free hosting, but you have to be totally creative.

      Hi Nickolie,

That is totally out-of-the-box thinking, no wonder they are an creative agency.

      Thanks for sharing

I only have 1 site now but you can have up to 5 domain names for free.

How are they obvious? I can name at least 3 right off the top my head that have no advertising on your page whatsoever, they're super-fast, and they have 99.9% uptime. Those days of the Freeyellow-types of sites with half a dozen big-a@@ banners on the page have been gone for many years now. Or maybe you're saying visitors usually do a WHOIS check on your site before they visit?

Here's an example of an Awardspace site I just found. Excellent load time. Doesn't look any different than any other site anywhere else I've ever seen:

1 Fast Selling Software - Give Free Software to Customers or Resell For 100% Profit

It's a bit cheesy looking, but that's not the host's fault. I used Awardspace for my first 2 years, and never went down once.

Excellent example of bum marketing, Nickolie.

I agree that I wouldn't use a free host for business purposes. But here's one I found that might be tempting. Lots of storage, lots of bandwidth and no ads:

Free hosting, web host free, free websites hosting, freewebsite
