What do you as an affiliate use to get into 'work mode' when your office is in your dining room?

They say you should start your work day with the same triggers (like getting coffee, checking email, etc) because it signals to the brain that its time to focus and settle in to the work day.

For us at the PaydayPays Affiliate Network it is easy for our brains to know when to get to work - it happens after we wave hello the doorman, ride the elevator to the 11th floor, and fire up our macs for the day. (My personal habits also include filling up on French Vanilla coffee at the Keurig and reading Aff Buzz! But that is neither here nor there).

What do you as an affiliate use to get into 'work mode' when your office is in your dining room? And how do you look past the things you see at home that need your attention (like mowing the lawn) to settle into generating content, placing ads, sending email blasts etc? How do you stay focused in your home offices? We want to know.

Pandora? Radio? Itunes? What music are you using to get going?

I have a mp3 collection.. Radio would do it too, but I don`t like it because there is not just music on (news and ...)

I listen to calm pop music.. I don`t like rock and hardcore.. they are not good for concentration

After I drop off my son at school, I walk the dogs (and the weather has been so fantastic lately!), grab a cup of coffee, put on the radio, and get started.

I no longer work out of my home but in the old days, I would dress up as if I'm going to work. It takes extra time but it psychologically prepares you to get in "that zone" and you'll tend to be more productive.

I think to turn on the 'work mode' , it's only inside of our mind. You want to 'work', that's it. For me it's just like that. To help you to concentrate, you can make some coffee or tea , then start with the to do list with what you wanna do.

    Have fun with ur work.

So here's a question - is that 'to do' list something you formally write down and check off as you go? Or do you leave your order of events for the day up to whatever task is at the forefront of your mind when you wake up?

I know a guy who puts on a dress shirt, tie, and shoes before sitting down to work in his home office. But it works for him.

I just get a big mug of coffee and do some popping & locking and shadowboxing to some upbeat music before I get ready to rumble. So maybe I'm just as weird.

You need to make a plan and follow it strictly. If you just "wing it", then you're going to suffer from decreased productivity.

I make copies of the most current affiliate checks I've received and look at them along with my monthly revenue goal spreadsheet. Those are always within easy site. That's motivation enough for me.

Procrastination was my biggest enemy when I first started to work from home. So over the years I built a routine that puts me in that "work mode". Basically, instead of working at any hours of the day of my choosing, I would build a schedule and stick to it as if I was getting paid to the job by someone else. I still work the same way and I will never go back to working without a plan.
