What happens if I change my theme now, my site is established.

INTERNET MARKETING

Hi Guys,
What happens to all my plugins and formatting, pictures, etc. if I change my theme now. My site is quite established already. If I change now will I have to redo, rework my whole site? Will it erase or harm any of my content? :confused:

I just want to be safe rather than sorry. I am learning to ask for advice before jumping into things. I have previously learned some things the hard way! :rolleyes:

Do a back up first of your site. I am assuming you are using wordpress as well. Switching themes shouldn't erase your content. But if you have certain things on side bars then you need to save what you have in a text file because some themes don't transfer that data over. I play around with themes all the time and never lose anything.

  Upload a new theme, and do a quick swap to see what it looks like.
  
  Any coding you actually added to the theme itself will need to be placed in the new theme.
  
  As far as functionality of the plugins themselves, they really shouldn't be affected.

Another thing you can do is just 'preview' the new theme and that will show you how everything will look. You won't lose any data or posts or anything... you just might have to do a little bit of reformatting here and there.

Just to reiterate rcoop, backup your files. You can search how to do this on Google if you're unsure (of course ). You may have to change a few things around with the new theme. That's likely even, but just stick with it until your new site has the look that you want. Let us know how it goes.
