Something YOU need to understand if you buy a lot of courses

When you buy a course, an ebook or set of training videos are you making these mistakes when it comes to the techniques being taught?

There is no hard and fast rule about the techniques or strategies being taught in these products. That's what they are... techniques/strategies. You have to test different models to see which one works the best for you.

The exact same website functions, OTO's or products aren't necessarily going to work for you in the same manner they worked for someone else and that's because everyone thinks differently when constructing the offer, naming their product, marketing strategies they use, sales copy they create, etc.

So to base your entire model off of someone else and expecting the same or similar results is ludicrous...

Training materials, books, videos and home study courses are designed to give you the information but you still have to think on your own, make your own decisions and it's those decisions that can make or break you.

That's why it's more important to understand the concept of these strategies and then thinking how YOU can use them in your business.

That's the biggest thing everyone misses when buying a course. They figure if they buy the course and follow it verbatim they will get the results. What you need to do is understand WHY marketers do what they do and when and on which offers.

Mike Hill

PS. So the next time you buy a course or an ebook and read it, then complain it's a SCAM or doesn't work, you should ask yourself "Do I really understand the concept being taught here?" before throwing it to the side.

Yes, understand the concepts being taught and become a tactician rather than a copy-cat because what works for one will not work for someone else because at some point you will have to make a decision on your own and you will not make the exact same decisions as the person you are copying.

But if you understand the strategy or concept of whats being taught then you can make better decisions resulting in a better outcome for yourself.

        Hi Mike,

Thanks. You've pointed out a very important and often overlooked aspect.

People purchase some product expecting same result presented by the creator. I don't have slightest problem with that. But, as I observed, a few were devoted energy in order to understand the terminology of marketing and the characteristics of how the program works.

I'm not sure, but one reason may be that many programs are advertised that way that you don't need education or skill to operate with, a "fifth year old child" can to make it successfully. And... everyone is set for the easy stuff.

It is relevant on the other hand, buyer needs to understand the creator what, why, by what, how, when did to achieve the presented result. Should also to understand that different conditions may produce different results.

Rather than learning they ask for refund - respect to the exceptions. Why? Because people are designed to orient toward the line of least resistance. And... I understand this mentality, because not everyone are Edison (myself included).

Therefore is important that the disclosure be clear enough and understandable enough.

(I know... I know... how many people read it, and after reading... how many people understand?)

        Cheers,

        Sandor

Take Action on any program you buy, if it doesn't generate results... ask for a refund. It's a simple rule that most people don't want to follow.

No, what I'm saying is that when you take action you have to think in your own way. When you buy a product you have to understand the concept and not just follow the leader.

It's much easier to make decisions when you understand the concept rather than trying to copy something.

If you take action on a program you buy and it doesn't generate results make a decisions and fix it until it is producing results. Think for yourself and employ the strategy or concept of whats being taught and you will have a better outcome.

Now granted, some products are more valuable than others. I'm not saying don't get a refund if the product is crap, but people go that route far too early because they don't want to think on their own and make something work.

    Hey Mike Nice one...

It's like Darren Scott Monroe says. When you buy a course or a system. Don't scream that it doesn't work right away... "Sometimes, you have to do some fine tuning." Unfortuantely it took me a long time to learn that.

And sometimes in the fine tuning process, you accidently improve on the concept or technique.

I really hope more warriors find your thread.

    Thanks

you should also thoroughly understand if you are the intended audience of the product and not buy if its unrelated to you. Just because it has a sale or offer doesnt mean you should buy it or its in a WSO.

    Thank you

Yeah that's for sure... Someone had bought my product recently and then wanted a refund because, well they admitted they were not my target audience but the sales copy was so good they just bought anyway.

Not to mention they went on to "slam" my product but didn't bother to read it and fully understand what it was about.

I issued a refund right away and thanked them for their time as they spent more time ripping me apart than actually reading the product.

      LOL...

Word Mike, I got a wso a while back and I implemented what was said in the course. Now I did manage to make some money and even my purchase price back, but I soon realized it would be more of a benefit if tried adding a twist to while still staying in line with the method. I'm still tweaking the method to this day actually. It takes time.

I see where you're coming from Mike. And you're not wrong.
I've bought a few WSO's and use them to help me in what I'm already doing, rather than following them to the letter to someone else's business model, if you see what I mean.

    Nailed it.

    I can't remember a time where I've followed someones
advice and it worked "as is".

The reality is that there ARE variables in EVERY course
or system, no matter how AWESOME it is.

    With that said...

I have used systems where they worked exactly from
following direct instructions - but it's *rare*. And, it
    usually comes with a price...

    more money and handicapping.

    Truth is...

you never know if something will work out the box or
if you'll have to tweak it, but 8 times out of 10...you
have to TWEAK it. 2 times out of 10 you'll get lucky
and the system will work for you - but those types of
systems almost ALWAYS come with a larger financial
    price tag.

The problem is that people want the convenience of
following the book, but aren't willing to PAY for it...

    So, yea...

those *made-for-you* systems do exist, just don't
expect to find it out of a cheap $7, $10, or $20 WSO.

The CHEAPER it is in price, the more work you'll have
to do to tweak it - for some reason people just can't
    get that through their heads.

Wow Mike ... you've hit it out of the park again.

    Brilliant insight

I think people need to learn that they need to take their own ideas and implement them into the new ones they've just learn, and not just try some "push button" that usually will get them nowhere

I totally agree. I remember when I first joined the forum, I was looking for quick method of making money. I would look for wso's that were just fast cash systems instead of an actual plan to turn into a business. They would be method that if you stopped doing them the money would stop. I soon found out that I didnt want fast money, but in stead I wanted slow but loooooong money that I count on when things hit the fan. So now I only buy wso that are related to my business and have longevity to them.

What I think people need the most is a mentor who knows how to make money who basically holds their hand all the way through until they start to generate a sufficient income. That's very hard to find nowadays. Email chats aren't always enough, sometimes you need a little push and motivation and perhaps even some chats on skype.

This mentoring is going to be very expensive. Think about it. If you are actually making money DOING rather than teaching, how much would you have to charge to take time from your business to help your now competition since you showed them what you are doing. You have to question many coaching programs, and the lower the cost the more it becomes questionable IMHO.

What is the old saying, those who can do DO, those who cannot do Teach.

Mike, that was an awesome post.We all tend to forget the things you mentioned. We all try to copy EXACTLY the method presented in every e-book we buy,and when it doesn't work or the results are slightly different,we tend to say that this is a SCAM...

We should always take the information given, understand the steps of every method and imply it and see the results..

    Thanks again.

I would say that the main issue here is that many newcomers to a product are just afraid to think on their own, or they are setting the wrong expectations.

This is the main reason why we look for guarantees and social approvals. Some of us jsut want the assurance that whatever the product is delivering it WILL work and be step by step.

I used to think...if a product was laid out clearly and exactly as described..even the smallest amount of success would be enough for me. But all to often that hunger for quick success blinds my focus..and I deem the product worth while but not for me... then starts the cycle..product after product.

It wasnt until I decided to only focus on 3 points in my business that I wanted to be proficient in.

    Copywriting
    Product creation
    Email marketing

This allowed me to filter all the marketers that I subscribed to and only kept those that give me real solid info..not sell crap to me. And if any product came up I would purchase those that would increase my knowledge in that area...not quick system for fast cash or anything unrelated

Good point. many buy, and follow the blueprint with great expectations on getting the exact same results, or better. Many cases they don't even know what they really want in the end, except instant results, and are easily lead to believe whats in front of them, and end up in the buy it & try it cycle. Its really satisfying when people can gain a piece of valuable information, learn from it, and build something new and innovative, and then act on it....

Good post. Very true. It's not about blind copying but smart copying. Smart copying is about understanding why something works and applying it in your own context. If you but lots and lots of courses and try following them all blindly, then you end up not having any focus in any particular direction. The trick is to extract the gems from the courses, the 'aha' moments and apply them in your own system.
