Building Relationships in IM

This post is probably going to make me sound like the most socially awkward person ever, but I figure that maybe some other people are having this problem too.

I really would like to build more relationships with people in the IM field but I'm really uncertain how to do it. I'm a pretty shy person in real life and I guess that extends to the Internet . So many of the marketers I admire have these great relationships with other marketers and that seems key to building a fruitful business (not that I just want to take from them, I also feel like I have a lot to give and contribute, plus I just want to talk to people who don't look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about all my IM ideas). In all the training I've gone through I've never seen anything about building up business relationships and partnerships.

So Warriors what tips do you have for building better relationships with marketers? What resources do you use outside of the forum to connect?

Check out some meet ups around your area. Meetup.com Search for different IM events going on in your area and just start showing up! If you want to build fruitful relationships then you are going to have to go out of your way and meet new ppl. Being shy will not serve you in this biz. You have to be willing to ask ppl questions, advice, or share ideas!

I am not trying to come across as rude, but you gotta get out there and make it happen!

Jtimes, you did not come across as rude at all. I am actively looking to get out there and start networking with fellow IMers so what you say is true.

Because one of my main IM activities is working with offline people, I have done a lot of networking with Meetup, Twitter, etc with local people who are entrepreneurs and working on the Internet (actually I have two WSOs that talk about that exact subject).

It's my networking skills with affiliates and other product creators online that needs work. I'm thinking maybe things like Skype groups or masterminds or even private forums might be good for me but I don't know where to find those quality opportunities.

    Hi Fitz10,
I have tried a local meet and greet, but it didn't meet my expectations. Wrong forum fir what I was looking for I expect.

I too feel a bit off kilter socially but I always keep on keeping on, as that thought foundation eventually comes to the fore. Heck. As a performer I can stand in front of a thousand people and entertain but put me on a one to one sometimes...

Anyway, what to do...I know for myself that those who I think are on top, confident, dynamic, successful, all have failings too. I know I put folks on pedestals at times, and yes there are many great achievers, but when it boils down, there are similarities and the pedestal is of my own making.

That's not to be detrimental to anyones success or effort, just that for me I tend to pull myself down when I think of what I am capable of, in the light of others.

I wish I had an answer or better yet, a solution, I just wanted to let you know, you're not the only one out there who feels like you do.

Oh and my wife doesn't like me talking too much about my I'M goals. So I find avenues to express ideas around it very difficult to discover. It can be a difficult journey, but one that is more than worth pursuing.

    Regards

    James
