While I understand the marketing genius behind the word 'passive', I'm not so sure that it's the most 'wise' approach to earning money online. I contend that competition has mounted so incredibly online, to the point where it can be difficult to even rank on long tail keywords without a significant amount of research and knowledge, that it is very difficult to work hard on something now and EXPECT it to continue to earn for a lifetime. Even if earnings are maintained, to what extent will they GROW over time if little to know effort is applied beyond the initial hard work required? I do think that competition has made the 'passive' concept very difficult to achieve AND maintain for most.

Get a coach who is verified and has testimonials and whatnot to help you out. The best way I discovered to make money online is to find someone who's making the type of income you want and then copy everything they are doing. That's exactly what I'm doing now.

a better question might be what product or service can you provide to people with little or no work that will make them want to part with a collective 1,000 a month for a significant amount of time.

thats what you really asked from the perspective of the people who would be potentially sending you the collective $1,000.

If you can get a site ranking for tons of keywords, either Adsense or an automated sales funnel (building a list+ selling stuff to em) can work

But it's not completely passive because Google likes to change things, and if your site gets tanked then you're back to square one.

I can advise on a way to make much more than $1000/month depending on how hard you work and you determination to succeed.

Provide a service that is in demand.

Work hard.

Treat your customers as you would like to be treated.

Measure. Improve.

Exactly! There is really no other way. Make a plan and stick with it, the 1000 dollars will eventually come. Perhaps you can even plan for passive income, but you have to be active first to get it started.

If you think there is a "magic button" that you press to make money then you're just another victim of the late-night infomercials that promise Internet wealth while you sit on the beach working on your tan.

If, however, you get the ball rolling with a serious and effective plan you may very well find yourself on that beach one day - but it won't be tomorrow.

Or you have to work your butt off to maintain it, either way there really is no such thing as purely passive income in the long run. The closest you can get is to outsource most of the grunt work, but you will still have to manage employees and projects.

Depends on your definition of passive.

If you count something that involves a lot of upfront work, but that will make you money for years to come, there are several answers: Personally, I set up several hundred YouTube videos directing people to an offer and have earned checks well in excess of $1K/mo. from that effort for just over 3 years now. So, it exists and it's not magic. But most people never do the initial work so they never get there.

You passively make money online once you have already started an internet business.

Keyword is business.

If you want passive income, you must set up a business, one that can be run from your beach house in Costa Rica. That means you'll need someone else to manage your business, while you sit back and collect the profits.

Before you even begin I advise you of having a business plan, which will detail how you will create content, drive traffic, and of course, make that money.

In this business plan you should also have a growth plan, where-in you lay the foundation to grow your business beyond your $1000/month mark. This is where you need to understand outsourcing and how it can benefit the long-term growth of your business... so you can sit back and collect the profit.

If you don't want to start a business... well then you don't get passive income.

This is the best advice you have been given. Passive income is only achieved when you can step away from the business and manage it. As well as promote it and create new products to help it grow.

E-commerce stores can be relatively passive if you use the dropship model & do some outsourcing. A bunch of work to get set up, but if you find the right person/company to outsource SEO work to & the right person/company to outsource customer service to it can be very passive.

I have seen service sites thats make more then $1000 a month. If you offer a service or product at $100 per customer you only have to sell 10 of them to reach that goal.

I've had single ecommerce websites make over $8,000 a month in profit.. It's definitely possible. Granted, those are special ecommerce stores, but even the mediocre ones make several thousand a month in profit. So even if you paid out for SEO & customer service help you'd still profit WELL OVER $1,000 a month!

Oh, sorry. Didn't answer the question. Heavy research into your customer and what their hot buttons are. Find a competitor who is selling a product to your customers already. Reverse engineer their marketing approach. Create a product that's highly consumable, with an educational component so you can create and market new products the more educated your customers get. Build a loyal following and take damn good care of them.

look, don't listen to people who say you can't make a passive income of $1000 a month...yes you can.

You can have 10 sites each making $100 a month passively easily, but it does take some work at first, lots of networking, which results in traffic and no, it won't be overnight. But it can happen fast if you do things right the first time.

Never say "you can't" to anyone, people. You are all as capable as you think you are, so think big, and think outside the box.

No. There's no such thing as that. Most IM enthusiasts who carved their names in the business worked their way up. Some spent years of pertinent practice. Some failed in the early part of their venture and decided to dropped out.

Also, there are some IM strategies that might work for me and not for you, vice versa. IM is all about trial and error. Try to have YOUR very own business plan. Try not to plagiarize others but you can get essential ideas from them as well. Do not treat competitors as enemies and try to reach out to other people within the nature of your business.

Set yourself up a very cheap, affordable membership site (WordPress password protected pages are ideal for beginners) that requires monthly payments of say $5- pm - promote it (subtly) through all the usual channels including Twitter and Facebook. Because it's so cheap it's worth a gamble to potential members, especially if you have NO tie-in clause - Then keep scaling up until you exceed your goal.

Well it's early days yet but I've just started a lottery site where I give users the opportunity to buy their lottery tickets online. In time I expect this to be a real passive income earner, hopefully surpassing the $1000 per month.

The reason I say this is simply because all I need to achieve this goal is 250 customers who buy 1 $10 ticket per week earning me $250/week. I'm hoping to get way more than that which is why I expect it to be a real passive income earner.

The clue is in the title! Internet MARKETING.
"Marketing"- to find a product and then sourcing the best method to get the product to the right customer and to build a good buyer/seller relationship with each one!
If you think you can do that passively then your in for a lot of wasted months before you quit!

oh, help each other out eh? all i see is some guy, with less than a couple of hundred posts, practically demanding answers to questions which are so ambiguous that there aren't any (at least, not as clear as you'd like).

how about you do a bit of reading, formulate an idea in your head, a plan on paper and then try to iron out the details by asking specific questions which people on here will actually WANT to help you with.

as it seems like you can't even be bothered to help yourself, i'm surely not going to bother.

Sure it's possible. I have one website I built last year that gets on average 100 search engine visitors per day and averages me about $100 per month with no updates, no additional work, nothing. It's a mix of Adsense and CPA, and for all intents and purposes I'd call that passive.

Now if I didn't have a full time job, weren't a full time student along with a full time husband & parent I'd have scaled it at least 10x by now. But I haven't, however, I am working on it, and if my new site can replicate the same success then it's go time!
