Powerpoint 2010 vs Powerpoint 2010+Camtasia?

I am a total newbie when it comes to both Powerpoint and Camtasia. I am looking at making some vids for my website through youtube, but also vids for CB products that I plan on using EZ video Player with Amazon S3 with optimize press.

Now the question is I thought I have to use powerpoint with camtasia but while I was looking at some tutorials it was showing you can add voice to the slides on powerpoint. Do i need to use camtasia to do everything I want? Or does the voice over function cancel the need to use camtasia? Thanks!

Depends on what you want to do. If you can record voice on a powerpoint and load it up on youtube and get the job done then I'd say start there.

Camtasia is nice but it is also a bit pricey. There are some other alternatives like screen recorder pro and you might be able to find one that has afree trial and see if it really does what you want it to do.

Just be sure your computer is ready to do video/audio capture, those files can get very big and fill your hard drive and sometimes you can have issues if you dont have enough memory.

    Good luck mate!

I have Camtasia and Powerpoint 2010 and I do not record my PPT presentations with Camtasia, ever. Maybe it's my video card or something, but I get a weird flicker... you can certainly just record your voice and slides with PPT, and then export as a WMV video ready to upload to YouTube.

What I usually do is use Audacity to record my voice and get rid of the noise and what not (also makes the video smooth b/c you're reading script vs. the ums, uhs, and what not), then I save the PowerPoint with no voice as a video file and match them up in a video editor like Sony Vegas and do a little editing to make the animations muchup better for a smoother video. In fact, here's an example:
But if you don't have the funds for a video editor the PowerPoint only option is just fine.

Thanks guys. My next question is then why do so many people use Camtasia for this if you do not need it? Are there any advantages that I should be aware of? Thanks again!

Camtasia has some editing functions in it with the ability to add callouts, edit timings, zoom, render in different formats, clean up the audio, etc...

Recording the audio and video in PowerPoint is a "do it right or do it over again" deal if you don't have a video editor.
