Guest Posting - The New Article Marketing?

Hey Warriors,

I have just got done reading an excellent E-book about generating
traffic by writing top quality articles for blogs also known as "Guest posting" or "Guest blogging"

I found it intriguing because the author stated that writing simple 500 word
articles are simply not as effective as they used to be. I myself have seen
the traffic spikes of guest posting and have seen the quality of traffic it provides as well.

My question to you is... Do you feel that writing top quality guest posts can easily replace the traffic of other sources if not article marketing?

I think submitting articles to every directory out there is pointless now. However, I don't think guest posting should replace any traffic source. I can guest post and syndicate a similar article, then enjoy traffic from post. Record myself reading the article, it's now a podcast. Create a photo slideshow, screencast, or other video, and that's more traffic. From 1 500-1250 word article :-)

Very nice and very creative. You just turned an article into a podcast into a video. Clever

      Thank you for the response.

      Hello eliomab,

I was just asking since the traffic from creating and submitting articles to all the popular article directories is slimming down a bit, if guest posting would be a replacement plus some.

There are a number of advantages in guest-posting:
    - When you guest-post, the site that you guest-post on is likely not considered a content-farm (aka article directories) that Google apparently frowns on these days. Of course, you want to guest post on an authority site or at least a site that is not dubious.
    - From SEO point of view, the backlinks can be valuable especially if the site has got high PR and is relevant to your niche.
    - You can of course get instant traffic to your site if the site you guest-post on is a high traffic and popular site.

Got some coffee? Alrighty then, sit back because this will take some time.

I've been actively blogging now since 2006 or so, and know a bit about Guest Posting - I guest posted at John Chow's site with

Empower Your Children To Out-Earn Their Professors

    back in 2008.

Guest posting is hugely effective IF and only IF the person for whom you're guest posting has a huge following (both online and also within their networks, ie...they're an A-list blogger).

That being said, guest posting is a great way to get your name out in niches where people follow authority figures.

It differs from article writing in that no networking is involved - with article writing, all you do is write your article, ensure you have a compelling call to action and a nifty resource box, and then submit it all over the galaxy.

No real human interactions are necessary.

With guest blogging, you have to proactively contact the blog owner and pitch yourself as a valued writer to said blog.

It's two totally different audiences...and requires two totally different approaches.

Here's some great resources about guest blogging:

    So.

If you want to guest blog, you should *first*:

    • Have a blog/site yourself to which you can direct the blogger owner, so they can see you walk the walk you talk
    • Have examples of your writing content
    • Be able to tell the blog owner what you can write about that would benefit the blog owner's audience (bloggers are all about their audiences loving their content)
    Hope that helps!

That's excellent content there. Thank you for the tips and will do.
I appreciate it a bunch. I'm going to look into this a bit further.
Other than what you've posted are there other resources?

Guest blogging or posting is far superior to article marketing (which is basically just spamming) in my opinion.

The problem is you really need to create good quality content for it to work.

You have an amazingly broad definition of spam, it seems. What does submitting an article to sites which were created for that purpose have to do with spamming?

Actually, it's the "old version" of article marketing.

Back in "the day", companies would write informative articles and submit them to the editors of newspapers and magazines as a means of branding themselves just as we do today.

It has always worked and will always continue to work.

Article marketing is the practice of branding through information exchange.

...and there is not a force in the market or online that will ever make that format obsolete.

You simply have to submit where the traffic is. Right now, that is at select article directories, blogs, ezines and if you are so bold, even traditional magazines and newspapers..

I didn't get this too well Chris. Are you saying guest posting is better than submitting articles to article directories. That is the advice I get very often in WF

Posting article as a guest blog is most effective then posting high PR article directory. Don't stuck this with theory. Practically do it. You will be amaze when you will get huge quality traffic.

But don't write anything awesome for your competitor.
