What do you think: are micro niches dead?

Hi all,

Just recently got an interesting e-mail from one of the fellow warriors stating that micro niches are dead. Although it will be later explained by him why, I wanted to start this thread just to hear opinions of others.

Personally I still don't think that MN's will die soon- there will be always a demand for those MN goods. Although I accept that it requires to be more and more creative, do much more research and most importantly follow the trends and be ahead of time, predicting what will/might happen. As a result, I believe micro niches are created every day by general human activities. In that sense the approach reminds me following the trend of stocks trading, therefore I don't think that it is MN end.

However, I still would admit that instead of focusing MNs with around 1000+ searches, mainly relying on organic targeted traffic, I'd say MNs will shrink to around up to 500 searches, where it will be required to get very targeted traffic straight away, maybe even PPC, didn't think about it yet.

However, in that sense this reminds me of the free lists already available- what needs to be done is just to attract and persuade people, just like we do in our daily lifes. But instead of trying to list build, we are already having quite targeted pre build list, which just needs to be registered officially and marketed further.

What do you think about this?

I agree with CDarlock on his point. Most people say silly stuff because they have failed at it.

Let's take a micro niche like Disney 70% off coupons. If the niche is dead they better quit sending me checks.

Or how about ladies tiger print shoes if it's dead Amazon (a multi billion dollar company) has lost their marbles for paying me month after month for getting people to buy their dead micro niche stuff.

Micro niches are dead! That's like saying Pizza is dead.

The people who spew this junk are the same geniuses that get on here with an "article marketing is dead" thread nearly every week.

        Totally agree
I will believe MN is dead when Amazon stop sending me checks.

I put more effort into splitting up my larger/more broad eCommerce websites up into smaller niches. For example, a website that sells Japanese toys to selling Japanese inspired stuffed animals (Plush) - and my sales have greatly increased and there is an apparent increase in return customers and people who purchase more than 1 item at a time.

Dead, no. Harder to get ranked on the first page of Google thus earning lots and lots of revenue, yes. Impossible for small-ish niches? No. Hard? Not... very. Impossible for evergreen niches? I'd say so, unless you have a whole lot of luck, and that luck would probably run out pretty fast.

Hi, but ranking for tons of niches is not hard at all. Evergreens impossible? NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate you thinking like that so that you are one less person I have to compete against.

I rank #1 Page 1 for many of your impossible evergreen niches. So sorry but that is just not true.

Are the massive evergreens harder than an obscure niche? Sure It's likely harder to get Megan Fox to go on a date with you than some tavern wench. But if she's sitting in front of me (if I were single) I would still go for it. And some you win some you get slapped before of after buying rounds all night. That's life.

      Impossible? Not hardly.

I definitely don't think micro niches are dead. There's plenty of people out there still crushing micro niches. Excuse me for this but, "Haters wanna hate." I feel a little dirtier for saying that, but most likely you are either hearing this from someone who failed at it, or someone who is just setting you up for something else.

Yes! Absolutely they're dead!... Shhhh! Don't tell the masses! I've got tons of blogs in microniches that are making big bank. It's our little secret!

Of course they're not dead! If anything as the Internet continues to expand, there will be more microniches to profit from.

Absolutely. The more that the average internet user gets hip to better searching, the more important it will be to target micro niches.

Back in the day many people didn't know how to do anything but find a giant retailer and look for what they want. Now they know how to refine their search and find exactly what they're looking for.

There's probably even more hope in micro-niches as time goes on. Think about it. There's tons of stuff out there that you never hear about, and more searchers find out about those things everyday. Not only that, but there's constantly new niches! Take the internet tablet for example. Several years ago, that niche didn't even exist.

I don't think so. Maybe there are some niches have dead, those niches which have been submitted for years, they might have died after all these years. But there are lots of new products, new services and new technologies come in to the market, so new MN never died.

    P.s. CDarklock told the truth.

I get emails like that all of the time. They all say the same thing.

"____ is dead, but I know where the real money is! ____ is the new thing, buy this product to learn more."

Micro niches aren't going anywhere unless people all of a sudden give up on searching specifically for they want.

So... unless women are going to stop searching for "size 8 women's high heels" and start searching for "shoes" I think we are good.

Nope, they don't seem to be. I have one ebook site that has a really tiny target market, but it still makes sales because there's so little competition. This site never has earned a lot, but it still makes a profit hands-free so I see no reason to close it down. The only problem is that if each site earns very little, you'd need to have a lot of them to make anything substantial. If they require little maintenance, though, that may not be a problem. Now, there probably are very small niches in which you could make a full-time living...I just don't know what they are.

Micro niche website will never "die". It is still one of the best ways to get to passive income so called "autopilot".

Even Matt Cutts said that choosing the right niche is crucial for the start of the website (yes I'm going to find a video if someone provokes me ).

Anyway the problem today is the software. How can a niche website with 15 pages of content get 3000 backlinks in 3 days? That is impossible.

Find a good domain with high CPC or however you'll earn with your niche, high search volume and low competition. Make good content and onsite SEO and thats it. Backlinking should only be applied if really necessary.

I've often got to #1 page with only an exact keyword domain and 2 good articles.

So micro niches are dead and he'll tell you why in another email? Did he get tired or something?

No doubt he'll tell you what works now too....He will also probably show you a nice shiny course on how to do this new method too.

I think Lee hit the nail on the head nicely.

Take a look at what Absolute Lee said above, micro niche
sites are the "secret" of many successful marketers.

And Willie Crawford, who is better known as the Godfather
of Internet Marketing, has a large part of his vast empire
made up of thousands of micro niche sites.

Pick a micro niche and take it for a test spin and then

So any one who says micro niche is dead , then read it as he is having lot of micro niche sites and he don't want to get more competition.

If any one says it is not dead means - they are promoting or selling micro niche sites

    IM world is pain ..

This just another way for some guru asking you buy their product simple as that.

By the way, I now at a funeral watching a well known guru giving eulogy about micro niche. At same time telling everyone that local business is the best way to go.

It call local niche and cost $997.
