I just checked, the download works fine. You simply click on the "download now" button (which is available from the home page as well) and then save it on your computer (and use it :p )

Well.. yes, it depends how old though ... I'm 95% sure it works with 2.x (I tested it on 2.5-2.7)

Don't wan't to be a party pooper but there are other plugins avaliable as well as following Google's manual code input, simply paste your code into your header (copy and paste it into the bottom of your content, immediately before the </body> tag of each page you are planning to track) . I use the Flexibility Theme which has it's own Google analytics, very handy.
