Money is not everything????

Hi everyone,

So I keep hearing people say this over and over again and it just drives me crazy.

"Money is not everything in life"

Sure it isn't but Zig Ziglar says it best:

Money isn't everything but it ranks right up there in importance just like the oxygen we need to breath.

I really believe that it is a sin to be broke.

I completely agree with you. When people say money isn't that important to me I always ask them - What is more important your left leg or your right leg?

They always say both are important and I respond back by saying - Exactly! Since you can't function properly with one leg alone, you can't really have an all round great life without money. It's as important as other things in life.

haha not in Canada, the government will do it for FREEE...

I think what's important with money is the feeling you get from having it.

The financial freedom that will make you feel more independent and confident about providing for your family can be an example of that.

Sometimes, money doesn't give you that feeling no matter how much of it you have.

That is pretty black and white. A lot of illnesses cannot be cured with money. How do you think a multi-billionaire like Steve Jobs died of illness? He became terminal. So again, health is way more important than money, but I agree that money is still a very important thing. It's just that it's not everything.

First of all the guy said, "without money you will surely die".

He is right. You can die with money, but, without it your chances increase exponentially. As for Steve Jobs, I have no idea of what he did to try and increase his life, what alternatives he sought out, or, anything else. I do know however, without money you have no alternatives.

You talk about health, but, there is no health without money unless you inherited all the neccessities to extend your life. At least, you can give one "H" of an effort to try and stay alive with money. Fly to various countries seeking alternatives. Money gives you one "H" of an option.

I agree but with money you at least have the luxury of the life for the days you are alive. If I am healthy and I've to sleep on the road then is good health worth it.

If you research statistics, you will see there is an almost direct relationship between wealth and health.

There is a dramatic difference in personal health and access to medical services between the rich and the impoverished.

Even in countries with fully funded, equal access to health care.

Well, since damasgate started it, it being the semi-political, my country is better than yours thing ...

No. It is not FREE. You pay dearly for it in the form of higher taxes, 18 month long waits for simple medical procedures that I can have done in a matter of days, lack of access to drugs that we to your south have, etc. A lot of you canucks travel south of the border to access the US health system, including some of your politicians. So, no, nothing is perfect.

Nothing is FREE. That is why we need money.

But I like you canucks, so I really don't want to go there, and although not a sin, be broke certainly sucks ...

Man, I had a friend in Canada - and this is no joke - catch a freaking flesh eating virus, they had to pull out his guts and stitch up some very sensitive bits... and he just barely survived after only being infected for a few hours.

And he got emergency care in a situation where, in the US, he would have died trying to "sleep it off" because he knew he couldn't afford treatment or in a waiting room filling out "no i don't have insurance" forms...

And I know he would have "paid dearly" for the chance to y'know, be alive and stuff... because every country in the western world that doesn't have a billion dollar insurance lobby propping itself up as middlemen has made the same choice at the national level.

Without derailing the thread though, the point is that if you live in the United States, your very LIFE depends on having enough money to spend a few months of income in the case of an emergency. And that's not even talking about the hazards of being in the wrong neighborhood.

While it's a fact that your brain trains itself to be uncomfortable no matter what your stature in life is (this is an evolutionary imperative) the idea that "Money isn't everything" is generally a cliche that comes from people that are a few steps up on Laslow's pyramid.

Money solves "terminal"? Hmmm. There's a new one. Sorry - once you are terminal, no amount of money will save your sorry carcass.

That said -- money can buy you organic foods to keep you healthy, and water purification systems to reduce your exposure to toxic crap. It can get you a home with lots of land and forestry away from the toxins and other dangers in the city - and expensive clothes made of real fiber so you aren't actually wearing toxic waste. (petrol based clothing fibers). It can also buy you toys like mountain bikes, skis, and other play things that keep you outside and active.

Money may not be EVERYTHING - but it can buy you just about that. Of course, family will love you when you're broke (as long as you're not broke that you need help) and friends will still like you....but you won't be able to afford to do anything with them without money so you won't see too much of them.

But still and all -- you have to keep yourself separate from your money. You are not your money. If you make money using integrity, honesty, and principles, you can be a great person. If you turn into a lowlife, bloodsucking, piece of crap slime mold to acquire money, then that is what you are. You are just slime mold with a few bucks and you will be about the only person that will be able to stand you. So when people say "money isn't everything", that's truth. Self respect is everything.

Money doesn't make you happy, however FREEDOM does. People fight for freedom. Money gives you the option to be free. If you have money, you can do what you want, when you want, and go where you want at any given time. That is freedom and that is happiness.

      Yeah it does.

You can help others with money and that makes you happy.

You can provide for your family, and that makes you happy.

You can buy "toys" and that makes you happy.

You don't have financial stress and that makes you very happy.

Money is good and when you lack it, life really can suck.

When you lack and are always struggling financially, again life can suck in a big way.

All y'all who say money is everything are missing a very important point. Simply possessing money won't do much for you. You are all talking about using money.

What difference does it make if you have a million dollars in your mattress and you live on a single 40W light bulb and ramen noodles?

Look at the gossip rags. How many 'got it made' rich celebs are so freakin' ecstatic that they start taking drugs, end up on antidepressants and make very public fools of themselves? How many end up dying young, whether by reckless living or suicide? I guess that's what made them happy...

How about the idle rich trust fund babies who end up acting out, up to and including killing other people? Or taking their own lives?

Same with rich, famous pro athletes.

Money can buy you options. It can buy you choices. It can't buy you freedom. Nor can it buy you happiness.

      So I guess it's true - money isn't everything.

I wouldn't say money is everything... but it is important. It doesn't matter how much money you have if you don't use it to enjoy life and make the most out of things.

There is no need to argue over this.

Importance of money is an individual prerogative. If you live in town, there is no way to survive without money. Unless you have a farm, then you can get food.

Some rich people are not happy too even when they have lots of money. They want more, or they worry over things, or ...

Money is a means to something but some people with just enough money do live a happy and meaningful life too.

So, its not everything. Just put in in the right perspective and not be too obsessed by it. Talk about health; surprisingly you can have a gennerally good health if you take care of yourself and spiritually sound. Don't believe? Have you heard of stories that terminally end state cancer patients got their illness healed miraculously when they worry less, mediate deeply and seek help from divine power...You must have laughed your head off hearing this Until when you are at that state, will you know you're actually helpless and in twilight zone.

So, everything is important. Just don't be too obsessed by it until it controls you and you lost the purpose and true meaning of life.

Money isnt everything, just remember at one time there wasnt any money.

But contrary to that its here now, and it is in whatever you do in life. It is the BOTTOM LINE.

There are only a few arguments to this and that is, how a person perceives themselves after they have the money, and how much money one thinks they need to have everything they want.
