Two Things You SHOULD Do Today To Avoid Catastrophy!!

Hi Guys

I created a post about two weeks ago entitled my Dell Has Gone To Hell.

Basically my hard disk died and I had not backed up.

Long story short I am only just getting back up to speed ... some of this is because I have other things to deal with, but a lot is due to the hard disk failure. This has probably cost me $5-700 in sales (ouch!)

So moving forward without fail I will always ...

1) Back up all files on a regular basis

2) Publish my sites to my locally to a seperate hard disk ... getting my sites back on to my PC so I can continue developing them has been a real pain in the A$%. I did a straight ftp download ... but they needed so much reformatting because I use XsitePro.

Now I know lots of you are well organised and will not slip on this particular banana skin. But for those not on top of this get a plan now to do this regular.

Anyone identified any other possible areas of exposure for IM that we could all do with thinking about please let us all know so we can take action?

John

I read an article recently (unfortunately I can't remember where) which said it was a good idea to back-up your computer files to a web server. It recommended using the webspace that comes with your dial-up or broadband account, rather than the webspace where you host your web pages. This make sense because most people just use their ISP for e-mail and internet access. Hardly anyone bothers with the web space (not that all ISPs provide it anymore) as it tends to be limited size, and you usually can't run php scripts etc., but it's perfect for backend storage. You can get software that will automatically backup your computer via FTP on schedule.
