How much time should you put in to test if a niche is profitable?

Hey Everyone,

Hope all's going fine for you.

Just seeking opinion from everyone because I'm currently undecided if I should continue to write articles for a niche that I'm extremely interested in - soccer apparels.

I've wrote about 30 articles for 10 of the top keywords I've identified from this niche, and after 2 weeks I haven't seen any sales. I know some Warriors advocate the importance of not investing too much time in niches that don't convert, but I'm just wondering if I haven't done enough to generate profit from the niche, or it's simply not worth the time.

Would appreciate any input, thanks in advance!

It should take about 5 minutes to test if a niche is profitable.

Type up the keywords in Google and check to see if at least a few people are advertising using Adwords. Go to Clickbank and PDC to see if there are products existing in your desired niche. Go use keyword tools like the Adwords keyword tool or wordtracker to see what the monthly or daily search volume is.

That is right but oversimplified. You should be able to mine ad data from your competitors and then watch them closely. A lot of times, a keyword may be profitable but not get enough traffic volume for it to merit ranking organically (I am assuming you are trying to rank your website without contextual ads).....

There are sites like keyword spy that can aid you. They give campaign lifetimes which means that you can see how a company is setting up a campaign long term as well as the keywords they are using and how many clicks they are getting.

I typically will test a niche using PPC for traffic volume and conversion rates. I can get a pretty accurate picture after 2 weeks. Sure it costs but you have to ask yourself...which would you rather lose? Time or money? For me, my time that it takes to set up a site and get it ranked is worth far more than a few hundred dollars. Plus, I can test for conversions as well...if the keyword has volume but the conversion is down, then what is the point?

Thanks so much, I think you hit the nail on its head with my situation. Now I have to make a decision if my time is more important or spending some money to get results quickly.

        Thank you!

Hey thanks for replying! I am confident that my keyword research have been conducted correctly because I have done all that you've mentioned and more. However, I'm undecided if I'm in a niche which make purchases or one that is on constant look out for free information.

While my traffic is not high at this initial stage, but there is still a constant volume coming through. Just wondering why isn't anyone buying yet..

Hey thanks for your reply, I'm getting averaging 3-4 views per day per article but I haven't converted any sale. I've started this for about 2 weeks and have around 30 articles, so that's 90 views a day over 14 days. Am I panicking too early? Or the signs are simply not good?
