Ways For Writers To Get Clients

Hey there fellow Warriors,

I am in the midst of building up my freelance writing and PLR business. I was hoping to get ideas from everyone as to how they built up their business. To get the ball rolling, this is what I am currently working on:

1) Launching WSOs selling my PLR Packages
2) Integrated WSO Pro with Aweber to build a list
3) Directing my subscribers to my site where I offer my writing services
4) Posted a thread on the Warriors For Hire section
5) Launching free PLR WSOs

What other ways can I source for clients, and build up a qualified list? I am aiming for quality vs quantity here, and my goal is to produce great content for my customers.

      Hey tayjuno,

I found that posting adverts on fiverr was a great way to build up my client list. I would advertise to write a 400 word article + related image + youtube video. Within 6 weeks I had a stable of regular customers.

The best bit about fiverr is that after posting your initial advert customers come to you so you don't have to bust your ass writing proposals like you would have to on elance or odesk!

Give me a shout if you would like to see my original advert that attracted the most new customers.

Given that the OP's lowest stated price per 100 words:

        $4.50 per 100 words
outdoes what they would get for 400+ on Fiverr, I doubt the site is a great place for them to start building up clients.

If you can do both quality and speedy delivery, you'll surely be your clients' preferred provider. That's what we have been doing since 2005 and it has been working for us.

I run ads on Gumtree and Craigslist sometimes.
I also run ads in Twitter and Facebook.
I get clients through this forum and others I belong to.
If you want a report that will give you a ton of sites where you can find work, check out my WSO in my signature too.

It takes time to build up a regular client base. Always ask for testimonials and referrals. I have gotten a lot of work from referrals because I deliver the best quality every time.

Write your own articles and post in some of the better sites with links back to your own writing site so you can build more backlinks.

Create a profile in LinkedIn and Apsense.

I hope that is enough to keep you going for a little while, along with the ideas others have suggested.

You can advertise your writing services website via Facebook ads, or you can create a Facebook Fanpage and advertise your fanpage so you can get tons of likes.

You can sign up to Lujure.com for free to use their apps to basically drop your website into Facebook. A free account only gets you access to one fanpage.

A consultant account allows you to make unlimited fanpages.

One simple method I have used to grab clients is through Craigslist. You can find clients in just about any state and most of the time they will pay more because they don't know what type of online pricing people charge for writing services.

Classifieds sites are great to find your writing clients. What is more most of the sites are free, so it won't cost you any penny.

Also there are some sites like iWriter (owner is a WF member) which is great way to start your writing career. Although initially these sites will pay you less, but once you prove your quality , you will get high amount. Quality is the 'All' which you need to take care.

Personally I would suggest working with your PLR more than working with clients. PLR is one of those things where your income snowballs as you get more packs released. I highly suggest setting up your own site to sell your PLR and building a list.

You can also offer rewriting of your PLR to your list as well as custom article writing if you are ever in need of some extra cash.

Thanks for all the great ideas guy.

So far, I have decided to:

    1) Getting customer testimonials by offering free reviews (Warriors For Hire Thread)
    2) Joined Textbroker.co.uk to get work, pay isn't great but gives me a chance to practice my writing and earn some money at the same time.
    3) Still reviewing Constant Content which looks promising, plus it caters towards the higher spectrum of article writing.

I have put my PLR efforts on hold till I build up some capital. Unfortunately my PLR WSOs are showing a negative ROI at this point of time. It's something that I will look at again when possible.

Finally, I have just come across article syndication which appeals to me as a writer. I would love to write on stuff that I enjoy. However its something that I am very unfamiliar with, so I am still doing my research.

The real key to being successful with PLR is building a list and gaining affiliates, which is why I was suggesting your own site. If you are interested in getting more into PLR, feel free to PM me or add me on Skype.

Just to update everyone on my progress, and to give potential writers some motivation:

I gotten several clients and assignments so far. Not enough for me to do it full-time but its a nice side income. The great thing is that my writing has improved with every piece of work I do.

In my spare time, I also do some freelance work on textbroker. I am a Level 4 writer, waiting to be reviewed and *hopefully* be bumped up to Level 5. Truth be told, the work is less demanding as you can choose the topics you wish to work on. There were quite a few assignments on internet marketing / SEO that I absolutely nailed. The money is decent but not fantastic.

I have also offered review articles to several Warriors that I am familiar with to build up my reputation.

All this work has given me the capital and motivation to work on my IM projects (involving paid traffic). I have earned more money this month than through the internet than the whole of the past year (through IM of course) by staying the course, and not jumping from idea to idea.

    Hope this motivates everyone
