Personally, I would avoid using affiliate software. I would outsource tasks and make sure everything is done by an actual human. Most software programs that can help you with affiliate sales can also hurt you quite a bit, but that is just my opinion.

I disagree, affiliate software is essential if you have a successful product, hiring a human that can be ill on days or forget and only works a certain amount of hours just isn't reliable. I've never heard of anyone that doesn't like affiliate software.

And just out of interest, how would a human manage all the sales, commissions and affiliate links?

It depends what your needs are. I use DAP to manage affiliates because I have a membership site, so it works really well for that.

I use idevaffiliate, it's one of my Top 11 Internet Marketing Tools.

The shopping cart I use on my custom shirt sites is wpEstore. There is an affiliate plugin you can buy that integrates with it. If I didn't already have idev I would have bought the affiliate plugin. You might want to take a look at the plugin and cart if you need the combination.

P.S. The title doesn't say it all. After reading the title I didn't know if you wanted to host an affiliate program or use a program to be an affiliate. It also doesn't mention if your site is WordPress or not and if it is a recurring membership type of site. All of these things matter.

I use 1ShoppingCart to integrate shoppingcart, post-sale autoresponders, ad-tracking and affiliate management...manage 1000's of affiliates this way across multiple businesses.

Also have some digital info products on Clickbank (with integrated Affiliate management) and my affiliate management for membership sites is part of Membergate (the software/CMS I use for my membership sites)
