Why does google play with you?

Yesterday morning my website was on the bottom of the 2nd page in Google, so I started adding more backlinks, and later in the day I moved up in Google. I was now towards the top of the 2nd page. Late last night I added another post to my homepage and I also added another page which was the same article that I added to my post. Now, this morning when I checked for my keyword.

What I've done for the website:

- Submit my website on directorybot
- Added 30 backlinks
- Added another 30 backlinks on March 3, 2009
- Added another post to wordpress website
- Added a new page to wordpress, but the page has the same article that I posted the same day.

It sounds like you built too many backlinks too soon? From what I've read here on the forum, it's best to build backlinks gradually, to make it look natural. The expert IM'ers here have better feedback/advice, I'm sure.

    Best of luck!

Too much too quick will get this result
If the site gets 30 new links a day every day thn its ok
If you suddenly get 30 a day for a short burst then usualy your site goes backwards

I recently managed to move a site from page 1 to page 6 where it has now been for weeks

There are no firm rules on this but yours is a common experince
After all if it were that easy everyone would be on page 1

      Hi pj,

Think about your situation for a minute....

      - Submitting your website into directories everyday is okay.

      - It's also okay to give 30 backlinks per day to your site....if it's an ongoing activity. So let's say you have 900 backlinks in store then it is fine to add 30 at a day. But you'll be banned if you give 30 backlinks at one day and then none for the next few weeks. So if you have 30 backlinks in stock then it is advisable to give one but everyday. Capisce?

      - Added another post to wordpress website at everyday is also fine.

      - You can add new page to wordpress, doesn't matter if tis has the same article that you posted to the directory at the same day. But is advisable to submit that 'same' article to the directory at first then post it to your site.

If I were you I'd rewrite that 'same' article or write a new one. That is the matter if you submit your article into many directories.

You know the content is king. At least the QUALITY CONTENT.

      Good luck,

      Sandor

I would think that Google looks for more a natural backlink flow than 30 or however many each day. Getting a set number of backlinks each day would rarely occur naturally.

And shouldn't backlinks come from sites that have something in common with the linked site? It's hard enough finding consistently high PR sites that would even think of adding links to their higher ranking page. It seems it would be a nightmare trying to find a set number (30) daily.

Or maybe 10 other people were adding 50 backlinks a day a pushed the listing from 2 to 12.

Sometimes my ranks take 2 steps back before taking 3 steps forward. Usually it's a good thing in my book when it drops temporarily. Unless it was already on page 1 lol.

Hey, wait it out a bit.

This stuff changes really fast. I recently had a site go from #2 for a top keyword to #nowhere...

Problem...when the googlebot came looking, I had a server issue that caused the site to be down...so it dumped my ranking.

3 days later I was back at #2.

    Sometimes these things happen.

Keep churning out quality content and find quality links and you'll be fine.

    Cheers,
    Jack

I made that mistake (I think that's what did it) and had my site drop for about a week. It came back at #1 for a couple days, then dropped again. I have no idea where it's showing right now, and I'm just riding the wave until it comes back on top again.

If your site is new then you can expect this. It takes several weeks for your site to settle in the rankings.

You're experiencing the Google "dance", that's all. Very often, the position of new sites in the search results is all over the place. It can bounce around from page to page until Google has the data it needs to get a good feel for what your site is all about and what you may or may not be doing to it. It will settle eventually. But for now, you'll just have to watch it dance...

That sounds like the infamous "Google Dance"...I actually asked Angela if adding a packet worth of backlinks in one day would be bad, heres what she wrote:

It actually depends on the competition how quickly your site can move. In the case of my Physical Therapist who operates in this small local area, his site went from the very bottom of Page 6 to number one overnight. It took one packet for his site to move that high.

Other sites with higher amounts of competition might take a bit more time and a few more links to get such a good spot.

You can buy 3 packs and use them all at once. That's not a problem. Here is what I tell people who ask about the "speed of linking" as well as the 'relevancy factor':

As far as being penalized if you build the links too fast, you'd have to have
HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of the same kind of links to have that happen. "Natural
Linkbuilding" happens every day. How many links do you think I'd get TODAY if
I had some sort of breaking news about the new US President Obama? What if I
knew something about his background that no one else knew? I guarantee you,
    I'd get THOUSANDS.

The Drudge Report was "put on the map" the day he broke the news that President
Clinton was having an indiscretion with a young intern named Monica Lewinsky.
Not only did HUNDREDS of thousands of other sites link back to him that day, but
many of them were NOT in the same niche. This is natural and expected by Google.
What is NOT natural is building THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of links all in the same
niche in one day. Then, you might be removed. But unless you are doing that,
you have nothing to worry about.

I don't mind a bit you asking questions. I like to make sure everything is clear for people.

You never said whether you have created a SiteMap for your site. I'm not suggesting that without one your site will drop but when I do my SEO I don't leave anything to chance. Google wants a sitemap; Google gets a sitemap.

Go to their Webmaster Tools to submit, verify, and request another crawl.

    Might help...
