They are still around? Man I have heard about them for years! Good article though.

There is so much emphasis on traffic generation that conversion rate optimization often gets forgotten in the equation.

That's some pretty crazy conversion rate! I wish I could have that.

I see their trucks down here all the time.

Gourmet food, delivered to your door, on schedule? That's a high value proposition that merits a very profitable price point.

They are in my neighborhood too.

They have 17,000 subsidiary employees in 600 locations, and the thing that I am still surprised about is that they are still a privately held company.

          What proof's that this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

A GOOD managed privately held company is IMO better then anything else as the owners have the business in their blood and soul.

Sorry to chime in with a bit off topic talk, don't know Schwans but they definitely know how marketing works.

Here's another I read about recently...

How Sara Blakely of Spanx Turned $5,000 into $1 billion - Forbes.com

"In recent months four Wall Street investment banks separately valued Spanx at an average $1 billion, a sum FORBES corroborated with the help of industry analysts. Blakely owns 100% of the private company, has zero debt, has never taken outside investment and hasn’t spent a nickel on advertising."

Some lessons for many entrepreneurs right there!

Yeah, I saw that one. It is definitely one to look at for guidance going forward.

Thats a great conversion rate. However it only says unique customers/unique visitors.

I am betting they have a high percentage of repeat customers that order from them every month. While they are probably "unique" they are not "new" as in first time visitors.

But still, a 40% conversion rate is great no matter what.
