the direction of IM we should go into :)

hey everyone,

just wanted some opinions:

what would be a good way to get started with IM in respect to seeing so many changes lately, especially to SEO.. It seems that within some time it's gonna become harder and harder to get ranked coz google is getting smarter what will make it harder for everyone to get your site on the first page by using the classic methods..

sure list building has it strength but what else is out there that would be a fairly good and safe bet as far as direction goes to wisely invest your time in, in regard to IM..

I'm ready to get started but am trying to find the right direction that will be rewarding to me.

can't wait to hear from you guys

    That's like asking

"hey I have all this yarn, what should I knit?"

The natural response from most people will be...

What do you want to do or accomplish and what are you good at or interested in.

Just saying you want to get into IM isn't enough. Because IM is only a method of promotion not a business. Unless your business is IM...

    (I just confused myself)

I think the OP would be better off trying to figure out what the market wants, how can he provide a good service to others, what value can he create rather than focusing on himself.

Do what you love and the money will come is just too over rated.

that's a good analogy actually; do what you want to do with the skills available to you. don't chase the money, chase your passion!

How about forgetting about SEO and start caring SOLELY about the CUSTOMER?

Study your target customer closely and build your website, your online presence, your complete BRAND around how you will service the needs of your customer.

The truth is that Google is moving to a BRAND paradigm. This will KILL seo as we know it. Sure, call me Chicken Little but doubters will read this post in the coming years and see how spot on it was. Branding is the wave of the future. Get in on it now before you are forced to start all over again.

Some good points made there. I mean matt cutts even mentioned they "might" discount links from infographics, not like they're killing SEO but they sure as hell don't want you doing it.

A good site is one that Google makes money off.

Don't worry about the SEO stuff. Start producing quality content, and customers will find you!

The Google Penguin Update actually levels the playing field for the little guys. If you're producing great content, position yourself where potential customers will notice you.

Technology will constantly change, but basic marketing principles will stay the same.

Getting ranked in the search engines, including Google, hasn't changed that much, and their aim has remained the same -- provide unique, quality content that provides value to the end user. If you do that, you have nothing to worry about. The cool thing about having a list on your blog is that a certain portion of people will sign up to your list via the search engines -- as long as you've got quality stuff they like.

    Good luck,
    Joey

you should consider social media marketing
creating a fan page and trying to get likes via natural methods or by spending small budget on FB PPC is a good option to consider

Forget SEO, organic traffic is very competitive, pick a niche, (not IM or weight loss etc) find products info or physical, get an affiliate deal going, and promote using the many different methods you can learn on this forum!

SEO sucks and so does google, people spend far too much time dancing to Google's merry tune! Not me!

Your main concern should be about providing quality content that will benefit your customers and potential customers and keep them coming back. This will also help improve your search ranking the "natural way". When people like what you give them, your website traffic will increase naturally though word of mouth and back-links. This could create a snowball effect - but it starts with providing useful quality content in your website.
