banned by Youtube and looking for opinion

I have been experimenting with youtube marketing in the last couple of months and wondered if I could get some opinions about what I might have done wrong.
First, I am not a youtube newbie as I have over 100 vids I shot and produced for a channel and website and never had an issue.
in this instance, it was an experiment in trying to both give away a free report to build a list as well as, of course, having links in the report to my paid offering.
I created the report and the paid product myself and both were hosted on my site. the video was created by me of purchased royalty free stock photos and music with me doing voice over. The subject of vid was a list of 10 steps to selling ones own creative products (not neccessarily online but both real world as well as online) so the vid delilvered real value in ideas on how to make money with your creative talents. it was about 3 minutes long and directed viewers to click on link in the description...the link went to an optin page on my site...No keyword loading in title or description...or even tags. I wanted to pay for promotion...and the next day, vid down and account banned. Oh, and no off youtube seo links or any of that stuff...straight as it all could be, or so I thought!?! Any thoughts as to what might be the issue?

This sounds pretty strange. Did you receive any infractions previously for any of your videos?

I'm afraid I'm a bit baffled! It doesn't seem that you did anything in violation of their rules and agreement unless someone reported the video as spam is all I can possible see as being wrong.

Here's my thought. Google has declared war on MMO/IM people and products. They've done this because there have been many, many people who have deliberately gamed the system to gain rank and other benefits.

You may have done everything by the book. I have no reason to believe otherwise. But when it comes down to the final analysis, it's Google's property and they can allow or disallow anything they want and they don't have to give you a reason why.

You're not the first person to get the boot and won't be the last. Smart people see the writing on the wall and separate themselves from the influences of companies like Google and other giants who can change the rules at their whim. Good luck.

    Hi all...thanks for the input.
Rosetrees, not an aff link...its all mine. but, I guess how would they know, right? Mystery.

Jayrycru, I did fill out a form that youtube offers you but no response...i did then post on the help forum where "users" who are youtube "experts" give you what seem to be un-official "official" answers and he said it was probably due to violation of terms of service...heres a quote from "videodave2" of the youtube group:

"Links can sometimes be considered as spam. Especially if they are anyway affiliated with referrals or click for money making deals or anything where you gat paid for recruiting others. Also if you had a lot of misleading tags, it would be considered spam.

By the way, when they say "policy against gaming", they do not mean video games. The word is used in the sense of "gaming the system", ie trying to manipulate the rules to produce results that really violate the spirit of those rules."

So...I did none of the things he mentions. but, perhaps this quote from this supposed youtube un-official "in-the-know" guy might be useful to someone...it sure didnt clarify what it had to do with me other than I had a link to my opt in page in my description. So, can one infer that having a link to an opt in page is a bannable offense? if so, it makes all the youtube marketing schemes rather an unstable platform to build a business on it seems.

Check your music to the videos. Music on any video automatically raises red flags in Youtube, legal or not.

    Alex,
I had the music issue once before on a different video, they suspended play of the video and said it was the music/copyright issue as they issued the notice...I sent them a copy of the license and they re-instated that video. In this case, I do have the receipts for both the music and the visuals but I did not get a copyright notice...I got the account terminated. Period. No note, no warning no nothin. Plus, from what I can see, there are millions of people posting vids of (not their own) pop music content who get millions of views AND youtube puts their advertising on them...no problem apparently.

I got this in an email, seems relevant to you:

I wanted to send out this quick mail to give you a heads up that your
    YouTube account
can be suspended at anytime. Don't bother about it.

WHY? It's your competition's new strategy and let me tell you this, This
    ain't good Karma.

Remember when people report Google Places listing so that their listings
    can be on top?

    Well, that's
the exact same thing that's happening here.

Others flag your videos so that those videos get removed the their videos
get moved up to the top.

This will result in getting your YouTube account suspended for like 6 Months and for me,
that's way too long to wait.

This has been happening quite a lot recently and we need to strike back. Need to
get your account back? Read this :

Go check out this support answer from Google:
    http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=185111

It will give you enough info to Appeal the flag and will get your account back in Good
shape and maybe you can report the guy who flagged you.

I am going to get mine back... Are You?

thanx RPM, but you have to have an account to do that...they closed my account too. I literally open the account, posted the video, went to adwords to set up a promotion campaign...came back the next morning and it was gone...

    Hi Dogstar

Sorry this happened to you man -- like others your situation is not unique.

Did you actually use the words "Make Money" anywhere in the titles, tags or descript?

If so, than that may be the issue right there. It seems like YouTube has classified those words automatic spam, and are on a war to shut down those videos immediately.

    My Opinion:

    1. Spread those videos out on other video sharing sites
    2. Consider getting a blog (if you don't already have one - could be a video blog as well) and an s3 account and host the videos yourself.

I like YouTube, but trying to figure out their TOS is useless since they can change it whenever they want

I'd have to say it's a real mystery as they do seem to not like "make money online" type videos.

However, go search youtube for any big WSO or IM Product and you will usually find several videos about those products that have been up for ages. Even some with straight affiliate links.

But it's a risk in this niche on youtube. Did you have 100 videos on this account or was this account a new account?

I would hazard a guess that someone flagged your video and then it was possibly removed automatically as software may delete anything with "make money" in it or it was manually reviewed, very quickly, and the same determination was made.

Basically youtube can do what they want and their customer service is almost non existent due to the size of the site. It's impossible for them to respond personally to everyone.

yes...my other video work was on other channels...since this was first experiment with monetizing videos, I created a new channel/account...thankfully. I guess i will agree that they may have targeted anything to do with making money or selling. makes it hard to figure out how to offer video info or advice on starting businesses related to money, lol.

YouTube algorithm is flawed. I wont get into the specifics but I can take any video down, anytime I want. I don't because I have it happen to me all the time, and know how frustrating it is. PLus the fact I have my own YouTube methods, and can pretty much outrank ANY video on there.

Also just to be clear, YouTube are not 'actively' waging war on IM/Make Money products. It's the competition. Again, since YouTube's algorithm has a huge flaw in it, and that MMO products have the 'scam' perception about them, just so happens to make it VERY easy to have those types of video removed.

It's part of the game, new account, re-start and eventually you will profit. Then, once you've profited repeat this process as your video will again no doubt get removed.

So to sum things up, upload videos, rinse and repeat. Sounds simple, right?

Of course if they didn't give an explanation, you will never know.

I too think that Google is waging a war against anyone who does not fall in line with them. It's subtle, but it's there. Try using goo.gl to shorten affiliate links.

It is also very possible that your competition got it nuked. It's way too easy to do. I could tell you how to take down any video almost instantly, works every time. But thinkers will quickly figure it out without me saying it.

It's a cut-throat business. But you know that.

        Good luck.

Try to launch another account, and do no weird website advertising in your videos. There's always Metacafe and Viddler that you can use.

That sucks, i've been using youtube and im pretty much doing the same thing you are doing. Looks like they can take me down at any time.

Komsat brings up a good point. I learned my lesson quick back in the day to stay away from the big niches on yahoo answers because your competition would shoot you down with the flag button.

perhaps the same thing is going down on YT

Josh...I think that is probably the best way to look at youtube systems...just bake it in at the start that you need to diversify and assume its gonna be gone.

It seems we all work on not only a very competitive playing field, but also in the shadow of a very big presence on the web, might as well accept it until Bing (or someone else) becomes real competition for you know who (not holding my breath but one can always hope).
