I'm cranking out my first blog using Wordpress and I want to know what plugins and themes I should incorporate to really make it attractive? Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.

StudioPress Themes Professionally Developed WordPress Themes are good themes, and I also really like Elegant Themes - Premium Wordpress Themes. As for plugins, All In One SEO, Ultimate Google Analytics, and Pagemash are all vital for me.

    AllinOneSEO
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Smart Update Pinger
    Google Analyticator
    Sociable

    Hi there,

I think the themes and plugins depend on what you are wanting to achieve.

A magazine theme may be suitable for your goal / niche or a two column or three column.

There are thousands of plugins - some of which are used every day, others which are used on the occasional site.

Definitely the Sitemap and Sociable plugins - they are top notch. I'd also use some SEO plugins too to help.

As to a theme - search for free wordpress theme - there are lots out there or create your own!

    All the best

    Jason

Depending on whether or not you need to collect info from your visitors, you might also want to look at the cforms plugin that allows you to create your own forms.

All the plugins already mentioned (SEO ones) plus I like "formbuilder" for its ease of use to create all kinds of contact forms.

Also, "Daikos Text Widget" and/or "widgetise any html"

I also like "Quote Rotator" for putting testimonials into the sidebar but you could use it for any sets of text that you want to rotate.

I also love the Studio Press Themes, love "Lifestyle" from that but they are not free.

Another one I like is "Flexibility" and he has a new one "FlexSqueeze" he does have a free version of flexbility as well.

I go with the suggestions for the plug ins, and Sue's Flexibility themes.

Even for a Techno Dummy like me, Flexibility's free themes set is pretty easy to get around if you watch the videos. (Of course, it takes up to 45-minutes for a 10-minute video to load for me!)
