Convert GotoWebinar wmv videos to Flash swf

Hi,

GotoWebinar records video in a non-standard wmv format.

When you try and use Camtasia to render it as Flash swf it fails - this is a known bug with Camtasia.

I tried to outsource this to video experts on Rentacoder but they failed too.

I have tried various other conversion programs to get the Gotowebinar wmv into a clean wmv version before rendering to Flash but they have not worked either.

The problem is a 4 hour video is very long, and creates a wmv file of over 200Mb. I could simply give my customers the download link, but I would prefer to show it online using Flash.

One alternative is to record my Webinar using Camtasia, but then it only picks up my voice (and screen) but it does not pick up the voices of the Webinar attendees.

Anyone any experience in Gotowebinar videos?

Thanks

    Here's what I would do...

Get a copy of Sony Movie Studio. It's allow you to edit the WMV. There may be other software options out there, but this is what I use and it's pretty inexpensive.

Since it's a long video, you'll want to break it up into segments, which you can do in Sony Movie Studio.

Then, you can use YouConvertIt.com to convert each clip from WMV to SWF.

Granted, I haven't done this yet, but do a good bit of work with video and it seems like this would work just fine. The big part is breaking up that 4 hour video clip.

    Hope that helps,

Hmm, you can't import vids into Camtasia that are audio and video?

Can you transfer it first into another format? and then try using what you have?

There are a lot of converters out there on the market.

I currently am having to import an avi to screenflow - yes, I know it's not windows but it's the principle here - and I can not export to swf but I can save as a .mov and then convert to .swf with different converters. Actually, I'm toying right now with putting it into flv and then will do the swf again using a different software than I used the first time.

I agree that you really should hack that down a bit - into 4 parts if it is 2 hours, and provide an outline of what is discussed in each segment so people don't get lost. Otherwise, if they are short on time they need to stop the video and then come back and figure out where they are again.

Here's my secret weapon for video conversion - free, open
source I think. Handles certain problems very well and
    renders quickly.
    XviD4PSP - Download

It's a little quirky. It doesn't do editing. It will take .WMV
and convert to .FLV and many other formats - not the best
codec because the best codecs for .FLV are proprietary -
by Xvid does good work anyway.

I use it for for cropping and rendering to .AVI mostly - then
I render to .FLV with a proprietary converter - gives me
what I want with a smaller file size.

        Hi Guys,

Here's what we found after trying almost everything, we have reverted back to what we did in 2008...

        1. Take the webinar wmv file you have from GoToWebinar
        2. Open it into Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 or above (edit parts you don't want)
        3. Render it as a wmv or avi again.

        4. Take the new rendered wmv or avi file and put into camtasia
        5. Render as flv file (this should cut the file size in half)

        6. We then put it into our ezs3 hosting account.
        7. Take the code and paste it into your website.

Please note that doing it as avi in the above mentioned step may increase the speed of rendering camtasia but avi is a much bigger file.

If you are going to chop it into parts then make sure that you do this is camtasia because camtasia generally renders quicker than Sony Vegas.

Also, please note that this process works best when rendering webinars where you are using powerpoint slides.

If you are using screen capture, render the GoToWebinar wmv in the absolute best quality in Sony Vegas and in Camtasia... Otherwise the video will be blurry.

Does this make more sense? (please advise)

We are still open to new ideas, so if you have one please advise us.

            Hi,

I've used Aunsoft SWF Converter. It is very nice in converting SWF files to all kinds of formats such as AVI, WMV, MOV, MPEG, VOB, OGG, MKV, and etc. I am sure this software will help you in an easier and faster way.

Moreover,it boasts specific profile for specific video on different device, for instance it provides profile for Blackberry AVI video, and you don't need to do the profile settings by yourself.

            Good Luck!

even if you select them to re-code it, it still comes into some wierd WMV format

best way I found is to use Windows Media Encoder
              Encoder Standard < Product Information | Microsoft® Expression®

that will put it into a real standard WMV and from there you can import the WMV into Camstasia or whatever to export into the format you like

If you try to put their WMV raw into Camtaisa or Vegas it will freeze up

We did a lot of this at my 9-5 job and yes, it is a pita! GoToMeeting uses their own codec so you're kinda screwed.

The easiest way that I found to fix it was to do a screen capture of the video with Camtasia and then produce it as flash for the website. Camtasia can produce it as any format you like from the capture file and you can edit the sound and throw pictures and stuff (like from a powerpoint presentation etc) into it when editing the capture file...

                Just my little workaround...

                  Here's what I do:
                  • Record your webinar as a WMV (make sure you've set it in recording preferences)
                  • After the webinar, GoToWebinar immediately converts the file.
                  • Take that file and run it through Windows Media Encoder (I use version 9)
                  • Import THAT wmv file into Camtasia
                  • Process it as an FLV

The process, in my opinion, is unnecessarily long, but it gets the job done.

While I am probably the most untechnial person I can say this is actually very good and userfriendly. Especially for rendering from one format to another.

I know this post is a bit old, but I figured I'd throw my solution up here for future reference.

I brought the GoToMeeting WMV into Sony Vegas Pro 9 (did a bit of editing) and simply rendered it as an MOV. The MOV works fine in Camtasia Studio 6.

    It's a multi-render process (which I don't like) but I haven't found a better solution yet.

I can't post links because I'm a newbie, but the video converter I use (has a bazillion formats and batch mode) is over at marketingtoolsiuse . com, just click the video link at top and look for the article on conversion.

I record 2 - 3 GoToWebinar's 1.5 hour videos a week and have gotowebinar set to record wmv. I want to post my gotowebinar to vimeo and then take the embed code and post on my blog.

However, Vimeo does not like the wmv format used by gotowebinar and I get error messages (it worked for the first couple, but now after many failed attempts it appears as an error).

How can I convert this gotowebinar wmv - that is really a G2M2 (?) I'm told - so I can upload to vimeo? This should be easy but I'm not finding a solution.

    Here is the thing...

I also do a ton of webinars - and I've tried every converter I could find - none convert them correctly - best I could muster was upside down and backwards...

GTW codec is very odd to say the least...

However - you can change this in your setting panel of GTW - (there is two options for video rendering)

For the ones you already have using the default setting you can cruise over to Screencast-O-Matic - Free online screen recorder for instant screen capture video sharing. and grab the $12/yr pro version which will allow you to play back your recording and then "record the screen while playing your video"...

YOu then will utilize their "record from beta" option to record the screen that shows and the audio as well...

I've been doing this with some success. Just leave the replay running and go have dinner or something and just cut out the excess.
