The 'Bum Marketing' (newbie / desperate / low budget) method for 2013

What would be the equivalent today of the Bum Marketing method?

Best for newbie with low budget. Methods that one can struggle with and see some results?

I'll go along with Bill's answer and add video marketing. You can do the latter on a budget and achieve good results.

Ken whenever I see your avatar and don't focus on it properly I think of Arnold Schwarzenegger, or I think that's what I see in the corner of my eye.

I thought Google pretty well killed marketing bums, although marketing Internets still seems to be popular...:p

I agree that video is probably the new frontier for low-to-no cost content creation, although the deluge of unoriginal, boring, badly made link fodder is making that tougher, especially for affiliates.

Kurt Melvin's new private forum on video marketing has some killer information on making quality videos for free or close to free.

I thought Bum Marketing is dead since Google's latest algorithm change.

Anyway, social networking sites and video marketing are the best to go these days. It is free and everyone has a Facebook or Twitter or Youtube account these days.

Promote whatever products you will market via Facebook or Twitter by posting relevant information. Create interesting enough videos.

Bum marketing is never dead, just less effective. If you add value to customers than they click through simple as that. I have squidoo sites that still make money to this day.. maybe only a couple hundred here and there.. but when you have a couple hundred lenses that is ok.

You can promote in much the same way that you do any other sites. Relevant articles 700-1500 words on the lens, guest posts on niche sites, relevant comments in on topic in niches, etc. I am ranked for keyword in the diamond tennis bracelet niche for this keyword, expensive home decor, high priced electronics and they all make money.

So the bum marketing for me nowadays... is what it has always been just adding more value for the customer. I vary anchor text, add more content that is engaging, add videos, link in forums that are on topic etc.

bum marketing is just doing affiliate marketing with no costs involved. so use squidoo, blogger and youtube to promote your "stuff". Ive even found a few free safelists that get some results. maybe promote on craigslist and some posts on forums.

I have never really heard of bum marketing. Exactly what is it? It sounds to me like its all about marketing products from Amazon or similar sites on sites such as hubpages and Squiddo...at least that is what I get so far. Anyone know of a good method to get started.

The idea of the original Bum marketing method was that it was free and anyone could do it, if they had access to a computer and the Net.

Video marketing can be done for free, but I'd say the realistic minimum would be to have a mic or a video camera or some other way to input sound. You could use an online text to speech program or forget about speech/voice-overs, but it would be a bit of a disadvantage.

Thanks for the mention John. I've posted quite a bit of marketing stuff in the High Voltage Video forum and am about ready to focus on some of the ways to create videos.

I do try to keep in mind that some people don't have a lot of money to spend, so I try to have plenty of free and cheap resources and methods people can use whenever possible.

I can vouch for Kurt Melvin he's original "BOMB MARKETING" lol. But No I bought a few of his items.

Kurt teaches white hat secrets like you've never seen before. His ideas are ALL innovative, fun, and lucrative and anybody can follow them as they are very newbie friendly.

I am chompin on the bit to get into there. I keep making buying errors.

Next month I'm on it for sure. Do it too you will be glad. IMHO

There's a $10.00 article- video software on the market called convertR For $10 you can submit some articles bum marketing style to get started in video marketing.

If you like the idea of bum marketing then do it the best way. First put your article on your own site then go submit it everywhere. Once its on your own site its yours so it gets more speed.

I honestly believe HIGH QUALITY blog commenting + social networking. There are endless opportunities to get your ideas and links out there and drive traffic. These two would just take a bit longer, but would pay much higher dividends. For instance, commenting on 100 high quality blogs that have at least 1000 unique visitors on average per post. Getting a comment through such blogs is good because of the filtering process. Not everyone can get approved so you actually have to say something of real value.

I'll tell you about a method that worked for me.

I got tired of hearing about lists, and I built a small list of 100 people just to prove it really didn't work.

But I was so lazy, I didn't even bother to make a product. I just made a bundle of master resale rights products and slapped my name on it.

I was so lazy, I didn't bother sending traffic to my sales page. I submitted my product to 3 membership sites. In the package, there was an offer to sign up to my list.

I was so lazy, I didn't bother to build a relationship, or send meaningful information to them. I just sent them offer after offer.

And I still made money. Let's see. I made a product of stuff that wasn't really mine. I built a list of people interested in master resale rights by submitting the product to membership sites that were not mine. I sold them stuff that wasn't mine.

And how did I screw it up? I abandoned the list because I was sure there was an easier way.

Talk about lazy. Later I realized I DID stumble on the laziest way to make money online.

My plan is to ramp it up on a massive scale. Then ask for referrals.

You really will have no competition with that method. Most in this forum see the master resale rights niche beneath them. Paul Myers I think called something similar a "distribution channel".

That got me to understand the power of my method, and why it worked, even though I was lazy. Get two or three things right, and you can still screw everything else up and still make it work. In my case, it was "build a list" and "distribution channel" that I got right.

Oh, by the way, I used the word lazy a lot in the post. But it did lead to a very EFFECTIVE way to market online.

I'm not sure half the people responding was around to know what bum marketing even was.

It was a simple method put together by Travis so that he could expand his list. While he says he was utilizing it, do you honestly think that guy was sitting there typing away for free content while he was building his list to get all of you on it?

I joined his list to see what kind of e-mails he sent out. He just promotes the hell out of basically anything that he sees worth more than $1. I never understood why he did it or why he always liked targeting people from the Warrior Forum until I saw the WSO section. He realized people will continually buy $7 products until they have no more money in the hopes they'll find that easy and quick button.

    Bum Marketing In A Nutshell:
    Write
    Submit To Ezines
    Submit To Other Directories
    Make Mad Bank

The method wasn't anywhere near innovative or new, he just took a simple concept and released it to build his list. If you honestly believe that he was using bum marketing as his main method of income or that he actually believed in it, then you're the type of demographic he was targeting in the first place and he probably thanks you.

low cost, no cost and effective ways are social media sites, youtube videos, etc.

concerning youtube videos, you can start seeing money trickling in depending upon your video content. They allow everyone to have adsense on their videos now. don't know if they'll ever change it, so if you don't have an adsense account or youtube account linked to adsense, all you have to do is upload one video to your youtube channel and you'll be good to go.

Forum marketing and social media marketing still work regardless of what Google does. As long as your site / video gives value to the customer, people will share it / like your site etc.

My site doesn't show up in the top 10 yet (it's a new site) but a forum post i made with the site link shows up in the top 10.

Video marketing can be considered very similar - videos are free to create and upload, and with good marketing you can drive insane traffic to your offer.

I think Kindle to a lesser extent because it's 100% free as well.

Bum Marketing is still the same as it was previously, except the only difference is you have more mediums available to distribute your content.

Bum Marketing used to be article marketing on ezine, squidoo, etc.

Now, you can use facebook/google/yahoo groups, youtube, vimeo, scribd, and the list goes on...

The options really are endless, so I would recommend to pick ONE of those sources and follow a strategy through to the end. Don't upload one video, one article, post once on fb etc. This will probably get you nowehere in the end.

Pick one strategy and follow it through till you have it perfected. At that time you will definitely be making money.

I'm going with video marketing. It's the easiest way to compete with other marketers that have authority sites. Plus you can backlink the hell out of your videos to get them to rank. Beats buying a new domain and having to wait for months to get any authority.
