What is the best way to choose a profitable niche?

Niche selection seems to be my #1 obstacle.

I have read several ebooks and multiple blog posts about how to choose a Niche, but I still seem to be stuck.

I frequently read Pat Flynn's website and not even that has helped.

Can someone help me? Do you have any advice or suggestions? Any resources that you can point me to?

I just want to find a good Niche and get started with an online business.

Here's what I do and teach:

    1) Use Google keyword selector tool or market samurai to find keywords that have ALL the following attributes:
    high CPC rates
    low number of competing pages
    decent search volumes
    have commercial appeal

    2) Cross reference those with Twitter. See if there are tweets indicating a market for the items you found on step 1

    3) Build deep content pages with an auto responder element (via email address or email collection box)

    4) Upsell members of your list to a membership site for specific information or just send them relevant products you're pushing as an affiliate.

Pretty much, they are billion dollar niches with tons of sub niches, but there are many other niches that are also lucrative. When you think about most people worry about their health, money and if they are going to get some pie

If a restaurant can make money selling dirt pudding, than you can make money in virtually any niche..

Weight loss is a beast of a niche. The key is to build an organic list using your own network of blogs. Building your list from others' lists might not produce decent results. At least not enough to recover the amount you paid to build your list in the first place.

So what is the best way to drill down into a sub category of a bigger Niche?

For example, if I put Health into the Google Keyword Tool it does NOT show me other keywords like Nursing or Dental assistant etc...

There are software like micro niche finder, that will look for niches for you, but if you don't want to spend money the video below will show you how to find sub niches quick.

At the high level research I check out magazines.

It is better to go to a good magazine store so you can actually flip through them, but surfing magazines.com can give many ideas.

Magazines run on tight margins and advertising. If there was no market with money and no advertising, the magazine wouldn't exist.

Magazines do extensive market research. They are in a very competitive industry and need every trick to retain readers. Look at what they are talking about and how they reach their market.

Magazines have the best copywriters. Use their headlines and cover blurbs as a swipe file for target words in your niche. Magazines know they only have 5 seconds at the check out to entice the buyer over the magazine beside them. The headlines and cover copy are designed to grab eyeballs.

When looking at the magazine in your hands (why I prefer a store to online). Flip through and look at the advertisers. Who is targeting this market? What products? What offers? How are they targeting them? What action words and headlines are they using in their advertising? What images?

I would love a flip through Garden and Gun!

Articles like "Perfect Southern Food: 26 Great Dishes, 4 unreal deserts and 1 very secret sauce" followed by "How I learned to shoot left handed".

It's common to be over-whelmed, but the best thing you can do right now is not over-complicate 'niche selection' for your first website.

Take some time to make a good decision, yes.

Start thinking about what you're interested in though, because you'll be spending all your extra minutes of the day creating content and promoting it...if not, you're doing this wrong.

An easy way to kill your first project is to choose a niche you're not interested in, because other people said it was a good niche.

Find something you're interested in, and help people by recommending either your own or affiliate products... that's all this 'IM' stuff is!

To answer your question about finding subniches, all you have to do is get active and involved in a niche. When you're researching for content to put on your own site you'll come across certain products, ideas, problems or other areas of interest... take a look in the google keyword tool, and you just might uncover some strange sub-niche keyword to create content around that has a lot of searches & very low competition.

Using a keyword tool like Google Adwords Tool, Jaaxy, or any other keyword tool that you use, find out how many people are searching for your micro- niche or micro-micro-niche keyword per month and how many competition are there. What you want is the one with high monthly search and low competition.

I would advise you to instead choose a niche that you are passionate about. If you enter a niche that you know nothing about just to make money, you will end up usually giving up and failing to stay motivated. Your interest will drop if you fail to see immediate results. If you can instead choose a niche that you are passionate about you will enjoy researching and writing about your niche. And you'd be much more likely to make money in the long run too.

What Victor said, if you want to get into a particular area and stick at it, remember you are going to have to put in the time to get a return, especially at the beginning so you better be passionate about what you're working on otherwise you won't sound genuine when you write content around it. There are plenty of people out there to help in any sub niches, so pick one you're interested in and start striking up some conversations on twitter, niche specific forums, facebook groups etc and see what's out there. Go talk!

The importance of a profitable niche to the success of your online business cannot be overemphasized. Every search starts with a keyword and the ability to know which keywords leads to a buy is what will keep you in this business. So do not underestimate the reward of a good niche research, spend the necessary time to come up with a profitable niche and your business will be better for it.

First of all find out what kind of products are being easily sold. Go to Amazon, eBay, Clickbank, etc and see what people are buying. Depending on what they are buying you will find what to sell, and which is the best niche for promoting the products that they are already buying.

What do you want to develop after you find a niche ? Do you want to a site that generates adsense revenue, builds a list or promotes products such as those from clickbank or sell physical products from other markets.

You can use the adwords keywords tool to brainstorm or you go to clickbank and look at all the different niches they have or for physical products you can look at cj or moreniche and look at all those products, From there you can start doing keyword research based on the products.

Or can you can do the old reliable and start with something you know and like and build it from there.

Also important to mention that you should check whether that certain niche and the related topics are trending or not and will be popular in the future, too.

Here is a short list, related to Health, - topics, things, which are related to the Health category and more and more people searched for them (using Google) during the last 12 months in the US:

    partner bpage imps
    norovirus
    advocare
    myfitnesspal
    paleo diet
    flu symptoms
    my fitness pal
    whooping cough
    meningitis
    herbalife

These are not keywords, however you can use them to find the keywords you need.

    1. Write down your skills and interests - choose one that appeals the most
    2. Find out if there are lots of products in this niche (Amazon)
    3. Are there lots of forums in this niche - active ones full of people passionate about this niche

If so then that will be a profitable niche and you'll be more likely to take the action needed to see success.

It's not all about choosing a "profitable" niche. What's the point in choosing a niche you don't like writing about or know nothing about.

If you know nothing about the niche then the only way you're going to be able to write content is by copying other articles.

What you need to do is choose a niche you have a passion for! I wrote a guide on this if you would like to view it. Affiliate Marketing Guide - How To Choose A Niche | Adams Marketing Journey

What do you want to do?

Build an authority site which can take month's or years to do, or build small niches sites and get them to a point where they are making $5 to $20 plus a month each?

Unless your dream is to build an authority site go here and signup; It's FREE! Niche-a-day(dot)com without the hyphens. Scott will send you good niches to look at and possibly find great sub-niches with every day like clock work. Once you get one begin researching it and if it interests you build a site around it.

If you don't know anything about it, again do a little research and you may find that you do know more than you think. With that your on your way. One caveat, don't go after a niche just for the money. Without an interest in it you'll soon burn out and let it die on the vine. A lot of people say to find something you have a passion for, but in my opinion it is not neccessary. Just look for something that peaks your interest and take it to the bank.

Another place to find tons of niches is Amazon. Begin with the top level categories and drill down. Again look for something that interest you. If you look on the left side of the page you'll see all their product categories listed. Click on one that interest you and a list of sub categories will open up. Pick one and begin digging. You'll never run out of niche idea's. For a more detailed explanation of this Trevor Dumbleton has a couple of video's on it. They'll cost you $10 but well worth the investment. Save a lot of time and frustration which you can't put a price tag on.

    Hi there!!

    Information overload syndrome here!

Just pick one or two niches! Try and find sub-niches within them and get working! Stop reading so much, it gets REALLY CONFUSING and it can definitely put a serious brake on your efforts!

Pick one you like and one that's "deemed" profitable and work at them REAL HARD! See what it brings, you'll learn more this way than by reading, reading and reading! Trust me, been there, done that!

    Good luck!

    With respect...

You can drill, saw, nail, cut, glue all you like and even then, there is no guarantee of success.

    Been there, done that.

    Think about it...

Just look at the sdvice on here and see that everyone is chasing the same goal. In other words, chasing some sort of untapped niche is fool's gold because I think they have pretty much all been discovered.

    Or...

You can simply go where the money is. Have a look at what's selling in the real world (amazon or Clickbank) and create something that compliments what's popular. Note that I said compliment... not competes.

    BUT...

Here's a little nugget that changed my world...

Find yourself a target audience / market that has many sub niches. Pick one and get going.

Search related forums to see what people are discussing and seeking answers to. BINGO!

    WHY?

Because you will then be able to keep selling them related products. Cross promote.

Read that again. Then do as you wish.

    Best of success,

    Sal

PS: Focus on a market / topic that you are passionate about and build a real business based on all of the above.

      Hmmmm...

Kill a man a cow and you can sell it to him.

Teach a man to hunt and you ruin a lucrative business.

Use google keyword tool and type in the phrase of niche you are looking into. If it has 30,00 or more views per month is is considered profitable.

Also two websites you can to do are magazines.com and dummies.com. Both places have done extensive research to see what the public is demanding to know.

So by having a quick look around the top seller books and magazines you have 1000's of profitable niches right there starting at you in the face.

Try selecting a niche that is something you have at least a general interest in. IMO its gonna be pretty to rank for the big money niches. Plus, If you pick something that is one of your interests, most likely it will be something fairly unique (unless of course you are into, online dating, weight loss, or payday loans). It also make it easier and more enjoyable to create your own content since you are doing it with a little passion.

Go to sites that list bestsellers (Amazon, ebay, CB, shopping sites etc.)When you find your niche you can cross promote to your list or on your site, like add a CB product, Amazon product and see their suggestions to what others are buying with that product- like accessories, an eBay product, a CPA banner ad, link to a book on Amazon or write one yourself and give away to start a list and promote to your list- all in the same niche of course.

Another approach is to find trends being talked about by influence leaders that don't have much competition.

It's not a niche per se that you are looking for, but a mindset over a specific set of problems (health, dating, acne, etc.) Who needs help and what are they buying.
