Question Regarding Targeted Ads

I notice that when I search for something online if I log into Facebook or any other website those exact ads are now being shown. Can someone explain how advertisers are able to target market this way?

Thanks!

  • Facebook has all the information about you they need to place a targetted ad..

And Google Chrome register your search history to place targetted ads. To prevent this, there has been made a Chrome extension called Keep My Opt-Outs.

Let me give an example. Yesterday I went online searching for a Comcast Internet service for my mother in law. Now, every site I go to has an ad for Xfinity/Comcast. How are they able to do this?

It's called Retargetting, there are a handful of
ad networks that specialize in it.
