Copyright Question

I am starting a website that will be a release for my NBA nerdness. It will be all about the NBA and am even thinking of doing a daily podcast.

My question for you guys (and gals) is this:

Would I have any copyright issues if I use "NBA" in the name and/or url for the site?

My first thought was no because it's such a broad market and I couldn't possibly even get on their radar. However, I would hate to get this thing rolling and be forced to change the name later on.

Thoughts? (Much appreciated!

    I think you mean "trademark", not "copyright"?

    Is "NBA" trademarked? Clearly, you need to know this? :confused:

      In the context of "NBA News", "NBA Info" sort of titles then no, you're not breaching any copyright or trademark as it's clearly not descriptive of any particular aspect (provided no-one else is using that particular handle).

      Similar to football in the UK; you can't be in breach of anything as the word in all encompassing. Don't be intimidated if you're told otherwise.

    When in doubt -- always ASK the trademark holder if they object. Can't go wrong when you have permission. Just remember to save the emails.

    Yeah won't be able to use the trademark, I've had this happen before and had to change it when I once used Vitamix as a domain name.
