Mass hack affects almost 2 million Internet accounts

Interesting article. How will this effect your list?

I know my email address has been stolen. The other day I got a spam with my password in the header. So that must have come from somewhere.

Spammers have figured out that you're much more likely to notice a message that has something you recognise in the subject like (like your name or city).

Not sure about the group or people that were responsible... In fact I'm pretty sure people investigating don't have a clue. One of my addresses was hacked and I got the same spam email with my password in the subject line. I started doing some investigation and found this article. Then I saw it on the evening news.

I've noticed that a number of "shady" black hat guys have been leaking "list building" informational products that look like they've been pirated on facebook that has spurred on a recent boom in a breakthrough of people who normally wouldn't be getting involved with IM products starting them.

I almost wonder if this is an attempt to dissolve the usefulness of lists from people who really didn't "earn" them. Regardless, I've noticed a small dropoff in response numbers over the last week but I attributed that to the holiday.

I'm working on a tutorial for my list-clients that will help them avoid getting their email hacked in the future.

My plan is to make a powerpoint video that walks my list clients through standard good practice to avoid email hacking. I'll be happy to share it on here for free when it's complete.

What do you guys do in the event that your email was hacked?
What do you guys do to prevent your email from getting hacked?

Any help with this would be referenced and we could certainly do some JV stuff where I expose my list (dentists & chiropractors) to your services. Thanks guys! Cheers!
