If you're starting out, use single opt-in.

If you already have a massively profitable business, and can afford to be picky, use double.



That's my conclusion after debating and brainstorming on the topic for several years.

Always double opt-in you will build a much better list.

If someone is too lazy to confirm there subscription I dont want them on my list anyways.

They will probably be to lazy at everything they do including business.

It depends on what you're doing. If you are using solos I would suggest single so they see your OTO instantly.

Just because your using single optin doesn't mean you can't have a name field.

Single is better sometimes but double is also needed at times. If it is a very specific niche and they can only get the information from a select small number of sources then double is fine they will take the time to confirm the email.

Now if its internet marketing you will lose probably more than 50 percent of your optins unless you give something very valuable away they can not get elsewhere.

Out of all the test I did a double optin list is more receptive but overall I make more money using single optin because of the numbers.

Also with my tests 30 percent more signed up by leaving the name field out. This was all done with true double blind spit testing methods.

This is a numbers game. Once you start checking your autoresponder stats you'll see that. Single opt-in is well suited to the IM niche. You never know who is on your list - so build it as easily as you can because some of them may turn out to be actual buyers.
