Just made my first video... now what?

Hi everyone,

I have created an interesting video that I want to use to promote a CPA offer. I put a lot of love into it, but now that this major hurdle is behind me I find myself scratching my head as to what to do next.

Can you guys point me in the right direction?

I want the video to play automatically in an html landing page on my website.

If I host the video on a site like Vimeo or YouTube, can't anyone just steal my work and imbed my video on their own site?

If I imbed my own video from one of those sites, will it display with ads?

If I host the video on my own website, do I need some kind of fancy player so that it works on all modern browsers and all different kinds of computers and mobile devices can see it?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

- Pete

    Hi Pete!

1: You are given that option - to play auto - when you click on the embed code.

2: They are promoting you for free, not stealing: your name, handle and title will appear on the video. Free advertising! Thank them!

3: If you take off the ad option you should be good to go.

4: Not that I know of.

    All the best!

Hey Pete, the advantages of putting it on youtube is the power to get it indexed and ranked in the search engines. Youtube videos are really dominating the serps with certain kinds of keywords.

Optimize your video for the search engines and list it. Don't worry about somebody taking the code. The internet is so big I really doubt it! You can still ad it to your own webpage as well.

If your using wordpress, just copy and past the html

I agree, it should go on youtube, vimeo etc, for the reasons mentioned above.

Plus, it just makes your life easier. When you embed a video from say Youtube, Youtube takes care of all of the technical issues of browser compatibility etc. Gives you one less thing to worry about.

Vimeo and Youtube are good places to put it up on. Or you could always get a flash video creator, create the video that way, then have it play automatically on your site whenever someone lands on there.

But Apple doesn't support flash any longer. So the video won't play on Mac, Iphone, Ipad etc...

Add it to YT, Vimeo, DailyMotion. Optimize it and do some syndication to get it ranked as much as you can.
Verify your website if you have one so that you can link an annotation in your video to your site.

vtubetools can help with the auto play function.

    Then…make more :-)

    Hi,
You want traffic and sales, right? Go to SlideShare.com, open an account, put some cool pictures on your video with a catchy title and you will definitely get traffic to your site. Last count there were around 45 million people going to SlideShare. You will need to download some free software because you will have to use PowerPoint for PC or OpenOffice.org.
    Good luck with your video!

    Thanks for the tips, everyone!

It's always a little scary dipping your toe into new waters, so I especially appreciate everyone giving me guidance.

It sounds like using YouTube or Vimeo is the best way to go and will side step a lot of technical issues for me, so I'll go ahead and add a watermark, upload, and shoot for the stars!

You guys are a wealth of information - I didn't even know about things like vTubeTools, annotations, slideshare, or dailymotion.

Knowing that you know nothing may be the beginning of wisdom, but knowing what is out there and where to start looking is a great next step!

Sure hope it works! I know this whole IM marketing thing can be amazing when all the pieces come together but I haven't had a truly successful campaign yet...

I'm hoping video will provide me with an interesting angle that will appeal to my target crowd!

    Hi Pete,

Bad news is...if someone wants to steal your video they will steal it regardless of where you put it.

Good news is...you can watermark your video so if someone steals it your name and url are on the video. You can do this many ways. An over video watermark in a corner of the video. A logo transition in between segments of your video (think old school batman where the logo swirl in and out to make the transition). You can also put branding at the front and/or end of your video but those are easy to cut off if someone steals it

To play the video on your site you can use jwplayer or flowplayer...both are easy to use.
