Building a list for a product launch via PPC vs promoting a launched product

I am building a software product for bloggers. I'm planning to go the PPC route for its initial promotions. I need help choosing the best method from these to:

1. Make a pre launch sales copy and may be a teaser video demo and bring targeted users to it via ppc and make them opt in for the product offering a sure discount without disclosing the price. Then send out emails with useful tips and updates about the product launch. May also send out teasers about the functionalities the app will have along with some of those tips. And finally launch to them with a good discount and early bird benefits. Launch wso afterwards.

2. Just launch the product as wso , on jvzoo etc and then promote the product via ppc too to land targeted users on the sales page where they have to make the buying decision and pay for it.

The advantage I feel with the first method is that I could build a list and at the same time make them feel the value of the product with periodic demo and quick use cases of the product along with valuable tips send out via email.

Note: I have no reputation or personal branding in IM space as I'm new here.

Now my fellow warriors, would the first method work better than the second? If yes, what are the things I should know and apply to make it work.
