Any info on purchasing "guru" products

Does anyone have an opinion on whether so-called "proven system" products actually work? I ask this because I am new to IM and have been doing my research. I look up different products and those who push them and those who create them, only to find out that most are just garbage. You buy one thing and then are bombarded with a ton of add-ons for the product. A few I looked at had reasonably favorable things said about them. Two I actually wanted answers for were "Profit Lance" and "Dan David's Instant Profit Package." There were no active scam claims or bad reviews. there was even a very low refund rate, suggesting at least some people had some success. If anyone has any comments or opinions on these products, or has used them, please give me your feedback, as I would hate to spend money foolishly. Especially when such a resource as this is at my fingertips! Thanks.

  • I think they're all rip-offs. The basics are simple:

    * Identify a niche
    * Build an attractive site with valuable content
    * Monetize with whatever strategy makes the most sense for your niche
    * Drive traffic (which is the hard part but something that you can figure out on your own -- hint: it's all about incoming links)

Nope. I'm proud to say I haven't bought a single one of them because get-rich-quick scams are all the same. Plus, anything they can teach you, you can find out yourself through the wonders of Google and even on these forums.

The reason Ron asked you that is because unless you've purchased them all, you know absolutely nothing about what is inside all those products, therefore you have absolutely no right to comment on them.

            Hi,

After reading some of survive unemployment's interesting (but rather common and predictable) comments I thought I'd check out the site. I was confronted with -

I know I'm supposed to be positive, but I really need to rant today

The more I think about it, the dumber it seems: People who want to work, who want to add value to the world and earn an honest living CAN'T. Millions of us are in this boat, prohibited by "market forces" from providing for ourselves.

It's not like the old days when, during a recession, you could at least find something to bring in some cash and pay the bills.
'Prohibited by market forces' - interesting...

            Further down -

And where are "our leaders" in all this? Why isn't any politician asking the monied class to make some small sacrifice in the form of slightly higher taxes?
You really should retitle it 'The Entitlement Blog.' You'd have an absolutely massive readership that would totally agree with everything you say. On the downside though, they might not be the best demographic to monetise.

Still, you could apply for a grant or some kind of funding from the local authority.

            Back to the thread -

Nope. I'm proud to say I haven't bought a single one of them because get-rich-quick scams are all the same. Plus, anything they can teach you, you can find out yourself through the wonders of Google and even on these forums.
It is an absolute wonder how this excellent forum and all of the helpful posts just happen to be here for you, isn't it?

It was probably left here by the 'monied class.' They've got so much just falling into their laps they probably didn't even notice. But that's just the way the world is. It's alright for those people with money. All we get is a lousy internet connection and loads of free-time. What are we supposed to do? Make a living with it!!! Sheesh.

It was a damn sight better in the good 'ole days, with so much more opportunity around...

So basically you haven't bought any courses but you know that they're all the same and none of them can teach you anything. I understand what you're saying.

This is very true, but, you will spend a lot of time doing that (as they did) and you wont know exactly what goes where right away, so you have trial and error, that can be costly.

What you are buying is someone who has been through all that and put together a plan you can follow.

Are they all worth it? maybe. Are you worth what you charge per hour? I bet some people beg to differ.

That's not anywhere near slanderous in America. Maybe in England, but I doubt that because I didn't name anyone specifically. I wouldn't even need a lawyer to get that laughed out of court.

      I think your absolutely right.

Simplify the process. Learn the basics of running a business on the internet.

It is quite different than the online business. Just have to change your mindset and be able to adjust... that's the key.

So much more, but start there.

  • Rosalind Gardners Super Affiliate Handbook is a good guide to how affiliate marketing works and will give you good insight as you plan your own business. I bought it years ago and I still stand by it. It's not a step by step approach to getting rich. But it will help you discover things that if new... you probably have not even thought of.

I can not speak for too many ebooks because they have little interest for me... I've been at this a very long time.

If you are going to invest money in online marketing her book is a good place to start then plan on budgeting for software tools to help you do the repetitve tasks more efficiently.

I have purchased many 'guru' products in my IM life -- most were good, some so-so. A few were pretty much not worth the electrons they were printed on, or were good but were just not what I needed at the time.

The biggest temptation I see with all of these guru products is that they have such powerful sales letters! And they all sound like exactly that one last secret you need to become successful.

So people tend to buy them almost randomly, with no real business plan driving their purchases.

IMHO, there are many solid 'guru' (and non-guru) products out there that provide great value and support to people who prefer not to have to figure it all out themselves.

If you are in the market for some support, try to find a program that matches your idea of what your ideal business should look like (affiliate marketing, PPC, etc.), and that you have reason to believe is a good product, with a realistic guarantee backed by an ethical business owner.

And try to find a program that starts where you are -- all too often, the sexy and fun stuff comes later, after your business foundation is in place. If you are at Step B (how do I create a landing page?) and the program starts at Step M (now that you have a list of over 10,000, you are ready to really start using this amazing money-making technique I'm about to teach you...), then chances are, it'll just be frustrating for you.

Then once you have chosen, commit to working that one program for at least 6 months.

Too many people have bought tons of programs and never even opened half of them, and then they jump around from one to the next, and wonder why they can't make forward progress. It's just sooooo tempting, and so very common.

Once you are having some success with your one program (or have decided to trash it altogether), then ask yourself what the next skill is that you want and need to learn to move your business to the next level. If you want a product to help you with that, then do your research. Buy it. Work it.

      Et cetera, et cetera.

      Best of luck!

So you're saying that market forces don't influence the unemployment rate? You know nothing about economics. It hurts your credibility when you make asinine statements like that.
All we get is a lousy internet connection and loads of free-time. What are we supposed to do? Make a living with it!!! Sheesh.
So we should all sit around making money on the Internet? Nobody will need a job? Again, you appear to live in a ponies-and-rainbows reality in which the realities of economics do not apply.

Believe it or not, there is honor in honest labor.

Don't over rate "gurus" and THINK that "gurus" are the best people to follow. Some of their products are JUNKS.Some of them will say that "I'll give you the exact method that I used to make BLAH BLAH in 7 days" and charge you a lot of money..

But to be frank with you there're hundreds of "hidden gurus" here in this FORUM. They'll be glad to give you their tips for FREE and help you out!!Sometimes "newbies" tend to teach you a lot of crucial information that you don't know. That's why I like to visit WF a lot.

Believe me or not,I've learned more things here for FREE compared to what the "gurus" have taught me for big money!!.I've even stopped buying new products already as I don't think that I need a new one right now.I've my own biz model and I'm working hard on it!!If I got any questions, I'd ask here

    Hi Alex

The value of a "Guru" product is in what you can make of it. If it inspires you to create a solid plan and guides you in this plan by providing up to date and timely information then it is a good investment. If it doesn't inspire you to take action then it's a waste of time and money.

Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Larry Ellison, Brin & Page - these guys are incredibly successful and could no doubt write some great books on how to become a billionaire. But just reading one of their books won't make you a dime richer. You need to get motivated by what it is you read, formulate a plan for integrating this knowledge into your business strategy and take action. And that still doesn't guarantee that you'll make tons of money, or even any money. But even if you don't you really can't blame the book - you have to look at yourself.

Idiotic comments about "all of them being garbage" from someone who admits that they have never even read one should not be taken seriously. Would you avoid staying in a hotel based upon a review from someone who admits they have never been in a hotel in their entire life? The only favor "SurviveUnemployment" has done for you is illustrate how NOT to market on the Internet, their site is an excellent illustration of how to fail before you get started and the rebuttal he/she has provided on this thread is a prime example of how to destroy your credibility among your peers.

Rosalind Gardners Super Affiliate Handbook was mentioned earlier, it is a bit dated (although she continually revises it) and is a good read if Affiliate Marketing is what you want to focus upon. I've always enjoyed Perry Marshall's "The definitive guide to Google AdWords", a must-read if you are planning to incorporate AdWords into your marketing efforts. I recently purchased a book from our own Warrior Justin Michie about creating your own WSO (Warrior Special Offer), it comes packaged with some bonus books that make it worth every penny.

My advice is to avoid buying every "guru" book or plan that you see - instead pick an aspect of Internet Marketing that you want to focus on and purchase one or two books to get you started. Them use them to create an action plan and get yourself focused on it.

    All the best...

    Bill

As someone has already eluded to you virtually NEVER get genuine reviews of any internet marketing products on the net as virtually every page that comes up in the search results has been written by an internet marketer.

I have never bought any of the products mentioned in your original post. However, if you are just starting out then get this book:

Amazon.com: Web Marketing All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies: John Arnold, Ian Lurie, Marty Dickinson, Elizabeth Marsten, Michael Becker: Books

It's a thousand times better than any newbie course that I have ever bought, teaches you basics and so much more. It's not an ebook (SHOCK HORROR!!!), it's over 900 pages long, it was published in March 2009 (so is virtually 100% current) and it's just $23. If this was an ebook or an online course it would probably cost more than 10 times as much.

Don't waste your money on anything else until you have read it from cover to cover.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Hey Alex,

you see, no matter how good of a product
anyone claims they have, the success you will/can
have with it depends only you.

If you were to read any disclaimer, than you would
notice that even though you get the money back guarantee
and a big promise, you still are the one responsible for getting
    results, not the product.

I have bought few of so called "Guru's" products because I could afford them. Some were very good but most just repeated content.

Now, I pretty much know whom I trust and the ones to ignore.

The only thing that bothers me that so called "Guru's claim their huge profits and how super rich they are and when it comes to the product they seem like overcharging those desperate newbies who are trying to make some money online.

I see that many times those sale tricks and content value of the product is so exaggerated.
