Just wanted to ask how many of you have used an online mentor and did it make a big difference to your business?

    Hi Manolo2,

For what it's worth i've been through two mentors. The first one was a 6 month deal for $1000 that involved weekly webinars where questions were answered. Personally I found that OK, but to be honest there were so many people on each weekly call that I never felt like my questions were given the time I expected or needed. The guy was clearly rushing through each person to get through every question in the time allowed so he could move-on to his next coaching call.

One more thing to add, and this is crucial for you - I think it was a bit of mistake. Looking back I don't think I was ready for coaching at that time. I was a little bit behind where I should have been. I'd only really recommend coaching (or certainly that style of coaching) if you're 100% ready to go and start work on creating your own product, for instance. I was still a bit stuck in the niche selection part when I joined so I wasted many weeks and months of my subscription talking about niches.

It wasn't just me either. There were plenty of others who wasted all 6 months of the coaching and came away still unsure of which niche to go into. In my opinion niche selection should be done before you start coaching, or you should at least have a pretty good idea of it. You also can't afford to go into most coaching unless you know how to setup a website either. Most coaches won't cover that.

My second mentor was a disaster. He's a very big name guy too. He posted a WSO offering cut-price coaching with all sorts of promises, and I personally loved this guy and thought my dream had come true to get a chance to work with him. But he let me down badly and basically told me that the coaching he offered was a mistake at the price he gave it for, and basically he stopped it all and refunded. That was crushing for me, but there's nothing I could do. Needless to say the guy in question has destroyed my faith in "Guru" coaching.

What kind of thing are you looking for anyway ? Are you interested in product creation and building a list ? Where are you now in your business ? Are you OK with the technical aspects ?

It's very hard to know who to trust, even if they're a big name. What happens if you're given bad information? You'd never know and you'd develop bad habits right off the bat...and keep those habits for a long time.

Or worse...you get scammed and lose money.

I've never used a mentor and I'm glad I never went that route. That's not to say there aren't good mentors out there, it's just a risk I would personally not be willing to take.

      Jennifer,

True, but that's why you must always choose the right mentor for you, and someone who has a proven track record of not only making huge sums online, but also a record of producing successful coaching clients.

A good mentor can be life changing. I know some people who made it online purely as a result of mentor guidance. They can make all the difference if you and your mentor are a good fit. Choosing wisely is the key.

But as with all things, DO NOT expect a mentor to work wonders. The real hard work has to be done by you. It takes effort and persistence on your part to make it work, as well as focus, determination, and a cast iron belief that you will succeed. A mentor won't hand you anything on a plate. All they do is guide you and tell you what to do next, and show you where you may be going wrong and what you're doing right.

The rest is down to you.

As I said in my first post, many people wasted their 6 month mentorship and came away not even knowing which niche to go into - after 6 months !! That's crazy, but at the same time it illustrates that a mentor can't force you to take action.

Mentors go through thousands of coaching clients, yet surprisingly few make it. Why is that ? Simply because the few that do make it are the ones that never give up and work like dogs at it. The rest are left with shattered dreams.
Mentorship is no magic bullet, and should never ever be seen as one. From what I've seen, real success has come down to 20% mentor and 80% the client taking consistent massive action. But that 20% has proven extremely valuable in short cutting success.

I have to be honest. I don't see someone that goes through thousands of coaching clients as a true mentor. That's just someone selling a program or course, or worse, someone just trying to make a buck and offering little to nothing in return.

To really mentor someone, I don't think you can spread yourself that thin.

The best mentors are not advertising that they will mentor someone.

Yes I have had several "silent" mentors.

          Never a personal one-on-one mentor, though !

What I mean by "silent" is that I studied these individuals, their Products( bought some), their emails, their Forum Posts..........and just really used what I learned from them to enhance my own current experience and success in IM.

I think a good, personal mentor you pay for can be helpful and even life changing.

However, I do not think it is a prerequisite for being successful in IM , whatsoever !!

I agree. Not a prerequisite at all. But it does provide a valuable shortcut. If you want to get into info products, it certainly helps to have someone who has been there and done it time-and-time again to keep you on the right path, because it's all too easy to get distracted and work on stuff that doesn't need doing at that time. That's the main benefit I saw. It's professional guidance you're paying for after all.

I find that people go to "Gurus" for various reasons. Some think it's a magic bullet and aren't prepared to put in the hard work. They somehow think all you have to do is join a mentorship program and you're told an easy way or a "secret" to make money. Well, there aren't any secrets or easy ways. YOU have to work like crazy at it.

The people with the right attitude are the ones that make it. They take a lot of action daily and use the mentor to fast track their success by learning how to do it right and asking the right questions at the right time.

If you go to mentor and say "I haven't a clue which niche to go into and I have no idea about Wordpress, and and and ....." then be prepared to stay stuck. They'll just give you a few hazy niche ideas and tell you to go away and learn Wordpress, and you waste your money and time for months.

As I said before, and I'll say it again. I think you have to be pretty clear about what it is you want and what you want to do, and then use a mentor to fast track you along the way. But that's just me.

    Hello.
    Its depends on your attitude.
You already have or having what you need to succeed. But if you're not able to trust in yourself, a mentor can be a quicker option.
That's what a mentor can give you (it's also all what you need): trust.

    God luck.

It definitely helps if you know what you want to focus on.

Do you want coaching on how to be a local marketer?

Do you want coaching on how to do affiliate marketing well?

    Are you a people person?

Do you like social interactions or prefer never to pick up a phone and talk?

Watever you like - make sure your coach can teach methods that make money from it.

Well based on all of the post above, my view is one word! ABSOLUTELY!

From my experience, you, the client, MUST want to take ACTION and act upon the discussions / plan that both you and the coach came up with.

No amount of coaching would be effective if you, the client, does nothing.

Having a mentor is simple. Just copy their steps of success. The only you need is to see their income proof and student testimonials of course so you dont get burned.

Make sure you have enough time and money to invest and not invest everything for your coach.

A lot of people go and start a business thinking that the coach is the magic pill that will make them money not thinking of the fact that you need to invest on your business start up as well even if the coach has many bonuses to help you with.

Please do your homework and have some funding because you need funds to scale your business.

Dont be foolish and quit your day job, instead grab another day job so you can have money to get the tools and products needed to scale your business.

The profits you make take 70% and reinvest back to more paid traffic and repeat the process.

Keep working daily to create free traffic organic and scale with paid ads.

I went back to real world entrepreneurship after getting burned with a few ebooks I bought

Then I found out about an old army friend who was making money online and I made him my internet mentor. I mentored him too, his business grew and mine went digital.

You just have to figure out what it is you're looking to do and learn that info yourself or find someone you can trust to point you in the right direction and give you answers you can understand. Nothing is easier than asking how can i do XXXX and hearing... try this. And seeing it work.

If it weren't for my 'mentor' I would have given up years ago.

Having a mentor rocks. I've had 2 so far. I paid $3000 for one, $2000 for the other. A lot, yeah, but...

It's not only about the knowledge they give you. To me, it's mostly about keeping me accountable, ALWAYS being there when I need them, motivating me and it's also surrounding yourself with people who are at a level where you want to get.

If you're ONLY looking for knowledge, don't waste your money on a mentor. Unless you're in some really weird niche/business, 99.99% of the knowledge is out there, if not free, it's in ebooks and $37 video courses.

If you're looking to basically hire someone to change your life (work involved, yes) - get a mentor.

    My 2 cents.

    Cheers!

everything that I haven done to make significant income online has come through the advice of a mentor. And yes I have paid the price. The most expensive coaching I paid was roughly $10,000 to go to my mentors house for two days.

you apply what you're invested in. Sometimes it takes whipping out your credit card and paying the price is the only thing that can get you where you need to be!

I used a coach and I can say It has REALLY worked out well for me.

I have catapulted my income from literally $1000-$3000 per month to 5x that amount. There ARE secrets out there that no one but certain guru's will share. Guess what, I paid close to $5,000 for information that i learned. If you expect to pay $500 for a training program and expect $100,000 you are wrong. They will give you the frame work for a high 5 figure business at most.

Many of you wouldn't take the time to even apply the principals because it takes to much time.

For example, my greater sales funnel I ever produced did $38,000 in PROFIT for me in a week with NO AFFILIATES! All traffic I generated myself, built an email list and kept marketing to them. Thats the simple rule. Funnels make $$ with the right traffic.

    The problem is:

What to sell, how to sell it, how to actually make a high converting funnel that will have people raving to purchase and how to drive profitable traffic.

This is something you need to learn A) through trial and error B) pay an 'expert' or 'guru' to teach you.

    Mentors are fine.

Paid mentors are a gray area. Most are scammers and due diligence is a must. One thing you'll find here on this forum is that the people who come out in favor of paid coaching are offering coaching of some kind in their sig. These people are just trying to set the tone of the forum in favor of their coaching business.

How many places have you ever worked where they just let you wander around and try to figure out everything for yourself.

No matter what anyone tells you about the Internet Lifestyle -- treat it like you would any other job that you really want.

Research what you want to do.

Do not give up till you start doing it for "real"

Then get the training to do it correctly.

Your chances for success are greatly increased if you have someone help you with

-- the things that you actually need help with.

Not a coaching program, but a mentoring program that is designed for what you are actually doing.

If you have done your research correctly you should know of several reputable people who will help you for a reasonable price and have your best interests at heart.

If you don't have some reputable names as contacts then your research has not been completed.

There are many gracious and giving people who do mentoring and are very approachable. It certainly does not need to be an arrogant and overpriced "guru".

    Hey Manolo2

Honestly, many shy away from getting an online mentor because it can be a pretty healthy price to invest for one.

However, that is the one decision that most Internet Marketers need to make!

When I first started online, it was like shooting in the dark.

Once I got myself a mentor, everything flowed smoothly, and I was able to become a successful Internet Marketer. I knew what I needed to do because everything was laid out for me by someone who has already done it before.

It would be a very wise decision for anyone to invest in an online mentor.
