  • The first step is to shut down Facebook because that sucks a huge amount of your day IF you let it. Shut your emails down too.Unless you're expecting something urgent, life will go on and you can check them at a later time.
You'll be surprised how much more work you can get done by simply doing these two things.

    • This is absolutely right. Facebook cuts down a huge chunk of your day every day. I wish there was a way to deactivate it without having to give up Facebook messenger. Deleting the app on your phone helps somehow. Removing yourself from all forms of social media is I think a good way to deal with procrastination (if social media is your number one cause of procrastinating).

    • People who have problems with procrastination shouldn't have their own business. They should work in a job with hours, duties, and supervision. Their ambition and drive has to come from outside themselves. This is perhaps 95-98% of us.

For the few.....procrastination isn't a problem because they want to do what they need to do.

Nobody procrastinates doing something they really want to do. If you have a goal, and are procrastinating doing the work, it's because you just...don't...want...to...do...the...work.

The only time procrastination is a problem is if you just....don't...want...to....do ....it.

If you have goals, and you are procrastinating, you don't have goals...you have fantasies.

  • Sit with is Navi; it is just fear, manifest as procrastination.

Putting stuff off indicates you fear doing that stuff. But if you sit in a quiet room for a bit, with the feelings, the feelings pass. Then you either do it today, or simply realize you never needed to do it anyway, and let it go.

  • I never procrastinate, but will get back to this thread in the fullness of time, and at the appropriate juncture.

  • For me, I just have to keep reminding myself of my goals. They are written down right in front of me and laminated. Constantly reminding myself of the WHY I'm doing what I'm doing, makes it easier to do.

Set a big goal. Think about it everyday. Take action towards that goal. The action will become a habit and you'll want to do more of it. Instead of just thinking about stuff.

    Works for me anyway!

    • Many people find that approach very overwhelming, which only worsens their procrastination.

Better to set small, realistic, easily achievable goals which help build self-confidence and clearly demonstrate progress is being made. This also builds enthusiasm for achieving the long-term goal.

  • Hopin' to dish the definitive ansa to this pertinent question mebbe next week -- less'n sumthin' weird happens like I encounter a loominous puppy in the mall, in which case we talkin' Septembah.

Gotta remember, procrastination kinda spotlights what is important, only 'steada fixin' emaphasis on the bright parts, it focusses only on the darker areas leadin' away on all sides into infinite gloom.

Routine. Whatever it is that you don't want to do make it a habit and build from there. E.g. don't want to go for a run, go for a light 10 minutes jog 3 times a week. Easy peasy then go for 15 next week. Then maybe you can add fartlek or hill climbs, etc.
  • My weakness is mobile games. What i do is I keep my phone away from me when I'm working.
  • This is an area that I also struggle. What kind of stuff do you do whilst procrastinating? Because it all depends on that.

I found this method called the Pomodoro Technique >>
    https://francescocirillo.com/pages/pomodoro-technique

Which is you work hard for 20-25 minutes straight then have short 5 minute break. Then this keeps repeating until you finish your task it helps you concentrate more because you know there's a scheduled break coming up lol.

Also, I deleted my facebook and Instagram in January and this has freed up a lot of time. The main issue now is procrastinating on forums... lol

    • not dissagreeing or agreeing with you just building off some of your points

i still have facebook.. but i removed my family over a year ago.. and people who only want to talk about political stuff get removed .. which keep the number of people on my facebook small .. that and my fiance gets jealous anytime i add a new female to my friends list .. so i have less than 30 people on my facebook .. as far as instagram i stopped looking at that daily after i stopped street preforming in Vegas last year .. looking to se when people posted pictures they took with me ...

I'm very selfish ..it's my time to do with as i please .. or what i need to do.. my family never got that so that's why they are not in my life anymore.. they use to invent work for me to do in my free time ..or just set up very inefficient systems for getting stuff done .. so they always needed help ..stuff 1 person should have been able to do in a third the time the way they did it it took several people to do ..

oh let chop wood all day on the weeken to save 100 buck a month off the heating bill in the winter.. when the people chopping wood make 100$ an hour combined ..

      hard work ...

It's your time ..you can have the peasant mentality ..slave or sirf thinking.. where you spend your time looking like you are working.. or claiming you are working .. so you can earn the right apperent in the eyes of others ..to enjoy your time ..

or you can put in the work to do what you need to do and then have the money to enjoy the time you are not working .. or you can mess with your self image and keep setting tasks you don't want to do.. then feel guilty doing what you want to do or kind of want to do while claiming you are procrastinating
  • I entered the matrix and exited unscathed. I've paved the path inside and poof. No more of procrastination man. At least not for me Igor.

  • I try to plan my day ahead and just work on completing what you can, right away. Every time you think of something that you need to do, just do it right away.

  • The best thing to do is start comforted in the knowledge that you can always stop.

Often starting proves to be less daunting that anticipated and so much more fullfilling than the previous state of procrastinating.
  • I use hypnosis. I trust myself. I grow...never stop growing.

Procrastination? Just a relic of the past.
  • Prioritize.check your schedule to see what you can eliminate doing so that you can have free time to work on the more important task.
  • Also, I will not tolerate any unpardonable demeanor.

We are all sick to our stomach with don-doers.

    Enough said. Now:

Something that works for me is to ...

    (All royalties to Nike.)

Seriously though many times I can't be bothered
doing anything ... However once I get going and start
    working I usually have a good/productive day.

And thinking about it if you are feeling like you don't
want to work (at the time) that's more of an
    accomplishment for the day.

    (HTH)

    P.S.
Something like newton and OptedIn said ... It's great
to have an "overall goal" (something that really inspires
and motivates you) ... And then break that goal down
    into steps.

  • Motivation to do anything is simple...

You will always be motivated to move towards what you define as being pleasurable.

You will always move away from what you define as being painful.

If you are procrastinating, its because you have a belief/definition that working is painful and that procrastinating is more pleasurable.

If you are doing something you truly enjoy and NOT just to make money, you will not procrastinate.
  • i think about it a lot
  • i have overcome my procrastination problem, from the old me i was so lazy that i'm thinking that work can be done later or after. But as a growing human being, it was not really a good habit having a procrastination type of thinking.

in this world where life sucks. you should not be over drowning yourself because life will defeat you, so you should play with life. and start thinking happy and positive thoughts, having a clear mind set that a work is should be done. More productive a day the better than having nothing. always believe in yourself the you can do it right and in time so you could be productive. seeing your outcome can make you happy, just by seeing that you yourself is growing good.
    • [1] reply
    • Of course you begin that journey from the basic premise, that as you so succinctly put it, "Life sucks."

  • Use a timer, either on your cell, or online. Set it for 33.33. Then work, knowing it will soon be over. OR throw a load of laundry in. Work ONLY while the laundry is being washed. When the buzzer goes off. QUIT working.

Then work ONLY while the clothes are drying, a bit more time to get something done. When the dryer sounds done, go fold and hang your clothes.

You may not get all that much more work done, but at least you'll have some clean clothes to wear and you will feel good that you ACCOMPLISHED something.

  • I routinely listen to Cosmic Master's hypnosis. Never procrastinated ever since and I am able to perform better, complete a few more tasks while having a blast. I am a very open-minded person now, don't criticize that often, don't judge others (instead of learning) and it pays back in spades.

I wouldn't want to "restore" myself to my previous identity.

It feels real good being me, the true me.
  • Wake up early (at the same time) every day.

People think that waking up at 12 pm is the same as waking at 5 am as long as you're getting 8-hours sleep.

But let's be fair, if you're sleeping until 12 there's nothing productive going on.

Therefore, never try to go to be early. That never works. Have a good ol' alarm instead.

    • Everyone's biological clock is different. As long as you put in an honest day's work, based on the number of hours you believe that to be - it makes no difference where those hours fall on a clock face.
    • In my world and definition of success .. i may way up with the sound of roosters.. but not to the sound of alarm ..

now the year and a half i was a street performer in Vegas .. the times to make the most money tended to be thursday to sunday night about 7 pm to 2 am ..now many times i would be back up and out on the strip from 9 am to 1 or 2 pm .. then hed home and nap through the hot part of the day ..

as i owned my own costume it was folly up to me to decide when to be on the strip working.. and when there was shade and crowds .. i was out there ..no hint of procrastinating .. unless i was really badly hungover ..

my health is better if i sleep when the sun is down and wake up before it is up in the sky .. so i would have had to get out of that eventually .. and for the first 12 years i was working i worked 2 and 3rd shift .. so it matters when you are most productive or when you mak the most money .. as to when is the best time to wake up and go to sleep .. and if you want to wake up early you need to pick a way to make money that benefits from being up early

  • Once you develop the "esoteric voice" you will feel the reassurance that you're on the right track and you'll stop moaning. It will guide you. It will feel real good knowing that you got rid of the pesky voice that throws you off balance. So stay afloat with the voice that truly cares about your well being and the fog will clear your path to self discovery.

    • there are apps that get sold to employers that do that kind of snooping on employees.. but it is easy enough to keep track of it on your own.. rather than spending how every much time looking at the app to see where you are wasting time and on a daily basis ..

It is like one of the time management systems that take up more time to use than the time they ever save

    • Believing that misconception should take you far in life. Procrastination is a beast that feeds on itself and is never satiated.

Just sit back and wait for it to pass. That'll work. Guaranteed.

Has it escaped you that what you are saying is nothing more than an excuse to continue to procrastinate? Let me guess. You work as a "life coach."

    • No. The constant pursuit of happiness means that the person is empty inside and thinks "Happiness" will fix their problems. They think that if they can just find happiness, everything will be OK.

But the fact that they are "in constant pursuit" of happiness, means that they are constantly not happy...over a long period of time. It shows that something is missing in their life, and that's why they are constantly looking for it..to fill the void inside.

If I ever asked a person "What's wrong?"...and they said "I just want to be happy". my first thought would be that they were damaged in some way, and not very complex....because "Lack of happiness" isn't a problem that can be solved.

  • So many good advices and tips.
For me I am writing my daily goals/tasks on board, this makes me do the tasks no matter what.
I also put the board in visible place so whatever I do, I always see the board with the tasks and somehow I am completing the tasks easily.
