Hello everyone i would just like us to help eachother on ideas to stay focused and disciplined on goals we set.
#mind warriors #discipline
  • First of all I would say having a plan and a passion and using that plan and passion to provide value to others .Discipline is what helps to shape and form habits.

  • A big topic for sure ... you may want to check out this WF thread on the very topic of focus: https://www.warriorforum.com/beginne...ments#comments

Everyone has their own mental frameworks for this, but FWIW, I personally found James Clear's book on Habit building to be one of the most helpful recent books on it.
  • Very true guys. I think the biggest problem is allowing ourselves to be easily distracted. I personally fail at discipline when it comes to waking up early, i would tell myself that i want to wake up at 5:30 am do my yoga and meditations and set an alarm for that but still fail.

    • Having kids accidentally solved that one for me. But as that's a pretty extreme measure to recommend taking for the purpose of making yourself a morning person , I'd ask: what else have you tried doing to make yourself do this? Different things work for different people, but for me, avoiding pain/punishment is usually the strongest. A few years ago when I wanted to create a morning gym habit, I took the (believe Tim Ferriss-recommended) "extreme" measure of enrolling on the website Stickk (no affiliation - there are other such websites that do this), where you sign a contract and incur a financial penalty for not sticking to your goal (there are "referees" you can select to validate). Worked like a charm after a few $5 donations to charities I loathe...

    • well waking up at 5:30 requires the discipline of going to sleep about 9:30 at night to get about 8 hours of sleep ..then it might be better to meditate for 15 minutes at about 9 pm ..

proper sleep is probably more important than meditating and yoga ..though if you had an amazingly good diet .. you could probably sleep less and have no ill effect ..

    • You can't get distracted if you have a purpose.

Purpose is what stops procrastination. It's what gets you out of bed, eagerly. It's what stops obstacles stifling you. When I look around at all the people struggling in life, it's clear those people have no purpose.

Procrastination is a symptom. So is lack of motivation. Lack of direction. Lack of self belief. ALL symptoms of one problem.

      No purpose.

  • This is all so true. It is all about having your goal in mind all the time to keep you motivated. I really need an accountability partner who will be serious about their goals.

    • is the goal to meditate or do yoga .. or is it to get the physical and mental effect you believe come from doing those two things ..that's why i asked if you where first getting plenty of sleep ..

sometime the goal is not the goal .. but something you think will give you the thing you really want ..but have not yet explained to yourself ..honestly the easiest path to get that underlying thing you really wants , starts with stopping many things you may be doing that prevent you from getting to that state ..

then there is a list of things you can do at almost any time the are optional and not should or musts.. that can lead to feeling better today .. and do not have a negative result at a later time that takes you out of the way you want to feel ..

so if you want to get out of bed and be fully rested at 5 am .. what can you do today to make that nearly effortless

it is winter time now .. so 6:30 ..7 am is about when i can wake up.. once the sun comes up earlier in a few months i will probably be waking up at 5 am .. millions of years of evolution ..built cycles into our bodies its easier to work with than against..when to wake up when to eat when to stop eating.. best ways to move .. when to go to sleep
  • I will try changing my sleep pattern. I slept late now that you make me aware. I slept at around 10/11, so i now realise that waking up early would not be easy.

    • instead of trying to shift when you sleep. attempt to meditate a 9:30 before you got to sleep at 10 .. then you should wake up between 6 or 6:30 without alarm .. and you can remove one area of feeling like you are failing at something ..

i don't know what kind of yoga you practice .. as we lazy westerners lump dozens of different type of stretching and pose practices into the term yoga ...

so it comes down to what do you want to get day to day and in the long term ..

i despise habits on a personal level as i want to live my life based on the result i get from conscious day to day choices.... and researching what those choices will bring as a result in the long term .

we are in time of very rapid change ..those tring to develop habits.. will fail .. those who become adaptable tp what is going on .. will do far far better
  • Why not adapt your work pattern to your natural sleep rhythm...would make more sense to me.

If I am going to exercise 'discipline' it will be over something more important in my life than which hours I sleep.
  • I have realised that i a night person than a morning person, so mornings are not easy.... But that time when i was able to wake up i feel so good, doing my exercises and meditations in silence.

  • Having discipline in a life is very crucial to achieve whatever goal you set for yourself. Without discipline you can't even imagine.
  • In the event that you've battled with adhering to your objectives before, quit attempting to redesign as long as you can remember at the same time! It takes A LOT of energy to change propensities. You're intellectually debilitating yourself in case you're attempting to change 10 things all the while. No one has sufficient self discipline to support that numerous changes.
  • Discipline is good but sometimes the power comes from the other side.
  • Yoga is better option to maintain Discipline. I am Gustavo Woltmann is a personal Yoga Trainer whop helps newbies to learn Yoga
  • Purpose can change over a period. If it changes .. isn't that the real purpose?

Discipline in something you are not rooted to .. can be a struggle.

However, I agree with the point that purpose gives discipline, at the same time, discipline in doing very well with what you have can be the sole route to find purpose.
  • The power of cold showers...

I can say that taking cold showers have built a lot of determination in me, and also I don't think too much now before doing things way out of my comfort zone.

The first day, when you are staring the shower faucet thinking about what you intend to do, will tell you many things about your character.

I too leapt on the other side and it feels majestic.

Glad I am curious by nature.
